Default LSx in a '94 Supra?

I've done some searches as well as I can with dial-up and haven't seen anything concerning this...has it been done?

My friend has a MKIV (I believe that's the right? The '94 and up body style) with an automatic tranny and the non-turbo engine. He's offered to sell it to me cheap, and I'm curious as to the feasibility of just yanking the engine/tranny and doing the LS1/T56 combination.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance, you guys have been very helpful on here.

some one please post something up , cause i have 2 friends with the same cars looking to upgrade. i bet it would be alot cheaper to get an ls1 in there and get 400 rwhp tha it is to mod or swap a turbo motor in there.

Oooh, maybe I'd get to be the first. I didn't see any posts about it and figured I was going to get shot down on the idea for some reason, haha.

Nah, can't fool myself, there's people here with alot more money than I that could probably pull this off faster... But if the only major problems I'll have with the swap will be ticked off Supra owners, I'm definitely itching to pick up that car and start looking for an LS1.

length wise i think its no problem at all given that the supra engine is 6 cyl. long and the ls1 is 4 , in terms of width i'd have to measure it and see what i get.

there was a thread on this somewhere, most of the posters thought it better to do a TT swap. The TT motor for those cars is a great motor, and although more exspensive it would prob be better to do that swap (most of the people on the other thread thought this too.)

It would be cool to do the swap and have a single GT47 or GT55 under the hood.

It should work. the LS1 fits in E36 BMWs that had big straight sixs about the same size, and I've seen a supra motor in a 3rd gen Rx7 and the Ls1 fits there too. The really cool thing though will be the reduction in weight. MkiV engine 700+ lbs and 6 cylinders long, LS1 only 4 cyl long and 440 lbs sitting way back! Get to work!

people stick V8s in mkIII supras alot, I dont see why it wouldnt fit in a mkIV.

I would do it just to **** off the supra guys. It would also finaly have the awesome sound to match the good looks!

It will definately fit, restating everything everyone else has said. It would be CHEAPER to put a ls1 in it than to try to swap a TT motor in there. Wiring is the main concern going to a TT 2jz swap because everything is different. Its like trying to do a turbo engine into a non turbo car. You are better off selling it and buying a car that already as turbos. Definately not worth money to swap over to the bigger turbo engine. Ls1's however can be had for 3500-5000 depending on year. That would be an awesome swap though! -Alex

The N/A engine will make big power for little money if you turbo it and know what you are doing.

This is true, and honestly why not just get a TT short block and put the NA head on it and then turbo? Sounds like it would he alot easyer to do that in the first place.

It sounds like a pain in the ***, people do motor swaps in cars that most of the time have low power, or building the motor is way to much so swaping it out is a good idea.

2JZ's dont have any sort falls like RX7s and there motors are built proof and will take more boost than alot of motors and its proven.

I see it as a big pain in the *** and a waste of time..................

But a supra with a LS1 and a Gt47r or somthing would be cool, you waste time and money and build it and come show us.

Be sure to make a vid thats long and lets see what it can do.

Default or...

just buy a z28 or SS that weighs about the same amount, is usually half the price, and will end up handling as well or better PLUS already having the parts you need.

Supras are ridiculously expensive for what you get. They're not THAT great of a car, plus for that kind of money you could even go as far as to get a GTO if you want IRS-type handling (more weight, but who cares?)

IMO Supra != worth it unless you run into a REALLY good deal.

edit: oh, put the LS1 in it... it's a better motor anyway

Kinda divided so far, haha.

I like the idea. I don't consider it "wasting my time and money," but I really enjoy the hobby and doing things different. Honestly, the RX7+LS1 idea really freaking appeals to me. But I've always enjoyed the look of a clean Supra. It's just a really sexy shape to me, everything about that car. An actual rumble and real engine in there would be sex. A 400HP LS6 would be a perfect addition, and who knows what would happen down the road. Nitrous for the track, or a turbo setup, or who knows. Perfect grand tourer.

A friend pointed out this Supra to me.

"This Supra set the record for highest horsepower on a stock block for 1 1/2 years at 980 Rear Wheel HP (1170+ HP at the crank--see dyno graph below) before the owner just recently decided to take the car to Sound Performance and build the motor and freshen the 3sp Automatic (SP400/TH400) transmission."

I would love to know how they manage to get that kind of power to the ground with BFG g-Force T/A KD 265/35R18 Front and BFG g-Force T/A KD 295/35R18 Rear. I can see two big problems right away. I could not afford to pay the speeding tickets nor could I afford to keep tires on it..
