Default Silverado, Sierra 2WD 6.0L swap?

I am buying a Silverado or Sierra in a month or so and here are my plans. I need to just confirm everything will work. I am looking to get a 99-up 2wd ECSB. It most likely will be a 4.8L. I want to do a 6.0L LQ swap right away. I have seen a bunch of trucks with 70k miles or so in good condition for under 10k. So I will be able to do the swap right away. I just have a few questions what year 6.0L should I look for 01-up correct. Also should I buy a 6.0L with a tranny or just get the 4L60E built from the 4.8. I am hoping for around 430rwhp when it is all done. And as good gas mileage as possible, gas mielage is key it will be daily driver with ocasional light towing duties. Also need help choosing mods. Should I swap for a LS6 intake. I will swap the cam of course, what you reccomend. I also plan to port match the heads to the intake. I plan on Kooks heards and a 3" exhaust. I think I will do some 20's maybe the foose speedster 6's that come on the regencys. I think 22's would be to much weight. For a tune I am planning on Hp tuners or EFI live. I have a little tuning experiance. I own a wideband and have tuned my gf gsx and a few others. I am thinking maybe a cheatr cam something mild that wont kill mileage.

For a point of reference, I have a 2001 ECSB with stock 5.3 Auto, 3.73 gears. I get 15 mpg around town and 19 on the highway. You said mileage was important to you, so thought I would give you a starting point. I don't think you will be able to use an LS6 manifold with the truck accessories. The throttle body will sit too low.

Here's an idea for you, of course it will be your truck so do what you want. Instead of swapping in a 6.0, why not look for a 5.3 truck to begin with and install a MagnaCharger supercharger. I think you will spend similar money, unless you can get a 6.0 real cheap, and you will end up with a lot more usable power with the supercharger and should retain reasonable fuel mileage. A 5.3 is 280-285 hp, the 6.0 is 300-310 I think, so you are really not gaining a lot compared to the 100 hp increase you would get with the Magna Charger. Plus the eye pop when you open the hood will be more inpressive.

Good luck with your project whatever you decide to do.

I really dont think gas mileage will be a problem. I saw another member with a SCSB with 475whp 6.0L and he said he got 22mpg highway. I know that one is a redular cab but I think with the addition of a tonreua cover i should get over 20mpg highway. I have seen multiple 6.0L for under $2,000 shipped. I will be able to port heads, cam, intake, headers and exhaust for under $3,000 more. So that will be about the same price as a magna. I would rather have a all motor setup with 6.0L and add a blower later on maybe.

try posting your question over on the gm truck section for more results. as far as trannys you'd be wise to go with a 4L80E not the 4L60E. don't count on 20+ mpg with a 6.0L either, unless you drive like your grandmother.

You got that right! Granted, my truck (the '03 Sierra in my sig) is somewhat heavier than a 2wd ECSB, but I get 13.3MPG on the interstate with the cruise set at 80MPH, and 14.5 with the cruise set on 65MPH. The best I have ever seen is 14.8MPG highway at a steady 55MPH. Good luck on your quest!

We did a 02 6.0 swap on my dads o1 scsb 4wd then lowered it. It got about 20-21 with the 5.3 and 18-19 with the 6.0 on short trip <15miles on highway 20-21 on 3 hour cruise to houston on i-10 on several occasions. It has 3:73's . We used everything off of the 5.3 if you get your 6.0 out of a 3/4 with a 4l80 there will be a spacer between the crank and flywheel you will have to remove then use the 5.3 flywheel. I had FIS in san antonio flash the 6.0 program over the 5.3 so we did not have to do any other mods. Dad wanted an as factory drive and maintenance. The power is awesome and it has 0 maintenance. THe 5.3 is under surgery to into an 96-s-10

Sound pretty good but the lighter Colorado sounds even better.

$3000.00 seems high for an LQ9 with 8000 miles. They sell new LQ9 for 3500 bucks with a warrt. Everyting will swap over.

Just for comparison sake.
I just bought a 04' VHO Silverado. It is an ECSB with an LQ9. I have only put about 2 tanks of gas in it but, with a combination of city and highway driving I got 18.4 mpg. Truck is completely stock and I would say that I am pretty easy on it most of the time but still like to get on it every now and then.

Damn!, your mpg sucks. I was looking at my mpg's while cruise was set at 75mph and it fluctuated between 16-20mpg.
