LS1 into a Vauxhall Astra Coupe
#63
Thats awesome!
Ever since I seen that Ford Focus with the V8 in it I have always wondered what it would be like to put a LS1 or LS2 into a Astra.
So what are you doing about the trans tunnal??
Are you doing any work to the motor inself?

Astras are pretty cheap here, every scrap yard has parts for them. The Vauxhall factory not too far away.

I`ll keep you up to date with pics as we progress.
The only thing we`re doing to the engine is, removing the power steering pump (as I have an electrical one) and the AC pump (no room for AC), fitting an SLP underdrive pulley, and custom twin 2 1/2" s/steel zorst.
Get the car sorted this year, see what power its running then tuning and NOS ready for next season

Any interest in a set of Stg 1 ported heads Pete ?
I also have a pair of Holden tubular manifolds. Nothing fancy, 1 5/8" bore short tubes, as fitted to some sort of Holden LS1 car ( not sure what model )

Does that mean you have a pair of heads for sale Steve ?
I think I`ve got to stick with the O.E. cast manifold, cause of the limited room mate, but I`ll keep it mind, if there is room I`ll get in touch.
Thanks mate

MAF is the airflow meter.
I am saying if you purchase EFILive software, or indeed HPTuners, you can re-program the cars ecu, to allow you to throw away the airflow meter, and rely on a map sensor versus rpm instead.
The same software will also allow you to reprogram the ecu for better performance etc, and still retain the MAF. Its up to you.
Most aftermarket ecu's do not use an airflow meter.
Richard Ingram is the EFILive agent in the UK, although I think there are a few suppliers working with either brand now ( HPTuners of EFILive )
Take a nosey over here in the Holden forum on Pistonheads. As your GTO engine is Holden derived, I'm sure the guys there will be interested in your project.

Or perhaps you intended using an aftermarket computer of some sort ? or just the standard one.
Again, another UK based forum that may be of help at times...

Thanks Stevie.
I`m using the standard ECU at the mo, and Greens of Rainham (quite close to me) have Vortech software (I think it`s Vortech) and are gonna remap it when it`s on the road.
Thanks for the other links mate, I`ll have a look now

I believe Green's use HPTuners ( they are involved with Paul who runs Wortec that supplys Holden/LS1 parts )
One of the guys from Green's posts on Pistonheads, "Caspy" is his screen name I think.

Yes mate, Caspy also posts on www.astra-sport.co.uk of which I`m a moderator.
Had our biggest show of the year today, Performance Vauxhall Show at SantaPod, we had 115 Astras on the stand, approx. 4000 show cars altogether, and about 12,000 people.
Excellent day, about 15 sub 11 sec cars too, mostly Nova`s and Corsa`s with LET `s

Pete 1, nice work on the Astra. My Grandma drives a (Opel) Astra hatchback, wait until I show her what your working on . Thing that bothers me over here (Finland) is lack of what you can do with cars, I was really close to buying a Shelby AC Cobra replica kit a bit over a year ago, but I knew I was moving here and didnt want to experience and difficulties getting it registered.
