I am all about the Starquests. I ran my 302 Ford/T5 Plymouth Conquest in the $2006 Challenge of Grassroots Motorsports Magazine (it's in the latest issue.) It's a fun car and it only cost me $1800 to build. V8 swaps are awesome for these cars because as we all agree, these were bad-*** little hatchbacks that everyone wanted back in the day. Now they are cheap as hell, which baffles my mind because they look and drive nicer than any riced-out 240Sx in my opinion. The 2.6 was the limiting factor for reliability and performance.

This was it's first run last year-

Anhow, I was thinking about doing an LS1 next. Anyone know if a GTO pan will work right away? These cars require front sump pans. What about headers?

I just finished my LS1 Mustang and am waiting for the track to open. I may dyno it, but I'm too lazy.

Great car! I think you will be on your own for the oil pan & header fitment. I looked at these prior to the Supra & RX7 projects and was wondering the same thing about the GTO pan. I'd do another budget build, a 2005+ L33 aluminum 5.3L motor for $800 with a cam and bolt ons should put it well over 350 HP (stock is 310) along with a T56.

You running the stock diff in your Quest? DRs and burnouts should be tough on that part of the drivetrain!

I used a box-stock 302 Torino/Mustang pan from a 1960s application and it worked well here. But after looking at some pics of a GTO pan, I fear the sump is too long to clear the sway bar and crossmember.

Yes, I'm on my second rear already and it's only been the track twice. I may convert it to automatic to save the center section, which appears to be the weakest link. Unfortunately, nobody makes beefier aftermarket diffs or gears for these rears. Another alternative would be to use an -'03-'04 Cobra center section and axles adapted to the Mitsu flanges. I believe Explorers have the same setup.

Little update on the car, he is now fabbing up a set of 03-04 Cobra front brakes for it and also fabbing up a custom manual steering setup. I'll try to remember to take my digi cam next time I go to his shop so I can take some updated pics for you guys.

So seriously, how long can an engine last running it at 35 psi?? Just curious as that seems to be a bit high.

It's an electronic boost controller that allows you to change boost settings from the cockpit.

One of my favorite Boost controllers Uses a Game Boy as its imput and display and it cheap

http://www.modernperformance.com/all...ers_DTEC.shtml

Dumb ease and you can talk **** and "play" on your game boy up to 60 LB Boost before the controller shuts you off.

Default Starion

I have 3 of these cars. One is a driver and the other two are parts cars. I've been wanting to do a conversion on the mostly complete one. I was considering a 4.3 V-6 conversion, but the v-8 is looking more interesting.
