Question yet another crank spacer question

maybe someone could help me. checked EVERY link concerning spacer, they all said use flexplate 12551367 and spacer 12563532 for a 700 tranny. went to put it together, and flywheel bottoms out on block.seems that i need a 3/8 spacer on inside of flexplate to have it sit correct to block and starter! the motor is an 04 5.7 gto block orig. mated to a t56. Is the crank different ?I need a beveled out flywheel.unit. any ideas on GM part#????????could i just also add another spacer somehow behind the flexplate to compensate?

the spacer goes on the inside of the flexplate.
crank spacer mates to crank, then flexplate on top.
bolts hold it all together.

the longer bolts. the spacer is 3/8-7/16 so the car bolts wont work.
you need the long flexplate bolts from say a 2001-2006 2500hd with a 6.0 and a 4l80(MT1) tranny.
the part numbers are posted everywhere, im a lil lazy to search for them.

i mated my ls1 to a 700r4 and used the corvette flexplate removed the torque tube piece off of it ,put flexplate on first then spacer then the longer bolts it had both bolt patterns in the flexplate for the 700 torque convertor or the 4l60e.The spacer on last will align the torque convertor hub into it.The vette flaxplate is dished.

hey TJ, i originally had the spacer first and the flexplate next, and it seemed it looked good. but that defeats the purpose of the middle hub on the spacer, which is to support the converter.how do i do that if the spacer is on the inside of the flexplate?? nitro, what year vette flexplate did u look up? (longer bolts are gm#12563533)

finally figured it out - found ONE reference thru a search mode that cranks were made with 2 different flange thickness'. I guess the GTO LS has a thin one. so i need a spacer on BOTH sides of the flexplate if i am stickin with this GM#12551367.

I'm going to be needing longer flywheel bolts for my project as well. The GMPP #12563533 does not list their length. Can anyone tell me what the length of the longer flwheel bolt is???

Thanks,
Andy1

if anything, go to GRAINGER supply house. sure they have site online....right now i am in the middle of makin a .415 thick spacer plate for the inside of the flexplate. so when i am done i will have to go thru the gm spacer, flexplate and additional spacer, so dont feel bad! will let u all know what happens----somebody should post a sticky about this crange flange issue....will clear up some potential problems with other people

the bolts are SPECIAL 11mm bolts, cant find them anywhere. they have an extremely low head as well for converter clearance.

shoot me a pm and i can put you in contact with a guy who can sell you the bolts at a better price.

You're looking for Specialty Metric bolts, in a goofy size (10mm or 12mm would be standard) with a special head, only want 6 of them, and want them for cheap? Good luck.

Grainger won't have them. McMaster Carr is unlikely to have them, and if they do, you'll have to buy a box of 25 or 50.

I'd suggest you shop around a bit to see if you can find a dealer who'll cut you a good deal.
