Default It's starting to look like a complete LS1!

I got a bunch of stuff done this week, installed my intake, throttle body and painted and installed the fuel rail. Installed those precious Street & Performance A/C bracket and idlers. Had my drive shaft shortened and installed it. Hooked up my column shifter to the 4L60E, looks like that will work just fine. Finished up my fuel plumbing, it's now complete from the intank pump all the way to the fuel rail. Did some plumbing for vacuum lines and PCV. If the weather will cooperate so I can paint my inner fenderwells I can put the sheetmetal back on and get to wiring.

I wanted to post just to celebrate my progress and I know seeing other people's progress motivates me. You can see more details at the link in my sig.

Looking good Pat!! That thing will be roaring to life soon. Wait until you get a chance to open the throttle a little! My '35 sedan is going on the dyno this week, my son works at A & A Corvettes and their dyno/tuner guy is going to dial mine in. He thinks he can find 35-40 HP just in the "tune". Film at 11:00.

Thanks everyone!

My body guy did the intake for me. He smoothed it first then used a plastic filler/primer that is made for plastic body parts like bumpers. The paint is a PPG Concept single stage paint mixed to the same color as the car, though it does not look exactly the same due to age. Once I get a fresh coat of polish and wax on the firewall, it should match closer. It's actually a very bright red, mixed from two of the brightest PPG reds.

Oscar I will be very interested to hear what your Dyno numbers are. Will give me a target to shoot for!

I'm not sure what you are asking. Old A/C Brackets? The F Body A/C brackets won't fit my application, they sit down low and the frame interferes, so I had to move the A/C compressor up higher.

The fuel rail is a standard unit from a 2000 TransAm.

Default Looking good Pat

I've been following your progress and it's coming coming together pretty fast now, You didn't use a stock intank fuel pump which is what I'm using with the stock tank. Are you using a aftermarket wiring harness or the stock harness?

Olly,

Don't do what I just did last weekend while MIG welding. I was wearing welding goggles and ended up with some sort of a sunburn all over my face but it all gone now and I'll wear the helmet next time. Can you tell that it's my first time welding and I'm trying to weld a smooth firewall on my 55 Truck.

I am using a custom harness made by Speartech. I sent him measurments of where everything was going to be and what items I would be using and he made it to those specs. I can hardly wait to get going on hooking everything up, but I need to have my fender back on because I need to route the harness through the fenderwell.

One of the guys in our club has an LS1 in a mid 50s truck, I can post some pictures of it if you like, or send them to you. It's very well done.

Matt, Thanks, if you were referring to mine, it was on the road with a 350 for almost 5 years, over 11k miles. Hopefully it will be rolling with the LS1 by May.

I did that about 2 months ago!! I was simply spotwelding my quarterpanel on, and I have a very dark mask and thought oh screw it i'll just close my eyes and look away, well I got the worst stinging "sunburn" of my life, my lips and nose were peeling, it was horrible. I've also gotten "welders' flash" from using an oxy-torch, it burns your eyes and feels like there's sand in them, hurts like hell, let it be a lesson to all... I still weld without long sleeves and gloves sometimes because they're tough and not so sensitive, but never again will I go without a helmet. My body man laughed and said its worst with flux-cored. Practice makes perfect, you'll get good at welding, my favorite is stuff that's 1/4" thick, to practice beads on. Finished painting my firewall today, after 3 hrs welding out in the rain, then 15 block sanding.. it came out gorgeous, not perfect, but i'm thrilled.
i'm hijacking your post, pat, just for a minute, to ***** my weekend firewall project.. =)

Olly,
I love the work you're doing too, you guys are really good, hopefully my truck will turn out as good as some of the stuff I see here.

Tri5nerd, I've found the best way to remove holes in the firewall, is use screws and washers etc to fill the holes, then weld them in place. It was nighttime when I was welding mine up, but i was determined to get them all, so what I did was set up my big dual-halogen lights on the outside of the car, then go in the car and stick a screw/washer in all of the holes that I could see light in, then go to the outside, while pulling the screw towards you, tack it in place, and weld all around it. Then chop off the rest of the screw with some snips, (i use mini-bolt cutters), then smooth it out with a flap disc (i buy 120grit ones from harbor freight, they're AWESOME).. 90% of the holes, after I finished, even though it was bare metal, you couldnt tell they were there. Some were extruded, I had my little brother hold a metal block on the inside of the firewall, while I hammered from the outside to smooth them out. Once I was done with the bodywork, get a tube of seam sealer ($4 or so) from autozone, and seal up all the little cracks and holes you can find.. (I had a few around the seams above the heater box, also the body mount below the frame.. Dont give up, if you get frustrated, just walk away and watch TV or something. We all know how it is, you get so frustrated that you just want to paint it half done, or ignore a few "minor" things that you'll regret later.. but that's just it..

just some tips..

I posted the pictures on a new thread rather than drag this one out and go too far off topic.

Olly

That is a braided line from an LS1 Corvette. I found it on EBay for $15. I wasn't looking for it, just saw it and thought, "Hey I could use that!" It has the quick connect fittings on both ends. It is connecting to the hardline that runs along my driver side frame rail back to the tank. Here's a closer picture
