Default Ls1 in an Eclipse NEED HELP!!

My friend has a 95 eclipse, he really wants to put an ls1 into it, but we need to know what it will take, what kinda of mods to bolt it up, what tranny to use because converting it to RWD would be too much money so we would like to keep it FWD but have the ls1 in it. Not sure about suspension and chasis mods either.

Anyone tune in please, we could really use the help.

Thanks,
Caleb

The 2.0L 4G63 is already stuffed in there tightly, I honestly don't see an LS1 fitting, esp. being transversally mounted for FWD.

dont' bag on the guy for having ambition. I'd start with ripping anything and everything out of the engine compartment, grab your favorite cutting tool, plasma torch, oxy torch, sawzall, BFH, etc, and start cutting to get it to fit, then start mocking up mounts and crossmembers. You'll have to have guts, for sure.. but it can be done. How smoothly is up to you.

Hack the firewall, hack the crossmember, make mounts, custom driveshaft, new rear end because the awd rear end won't hold up. Wiring, and all the other bull... Pretty easy and it'll only take about 2 years to finish and 20k. Youre better off starting with a FR setup which is why it wasn't so hard to put into my 240.

you could do it, it would probably have like a new impalla SS/montecarlo SS/grand prix GXP front subframe under it, using the steering and suspension and rigging up shock towers and mounts

Give up on the FWD **** right now, its not gonna happen. Take the old motor out and give us an idea of what the tranny tunnel and crossmember looks like...you might have a chance like I said before since they did make AWD DSMs you couls convert it to RWD. FWD will cost too much $$$ and suck anyway...

Bah to everyone who thinks it won't fit.

To the original poster:

Have you taken a measuring tape to the engine bay and compared it with the specs posted on the forums for the LS1 size?

I've spent a lot of time in the engine bays of 1st gen DSMs, and have seen the second gen's quite a bit as well; I think it would fit, in RWD fashion (FWD would require a LOT of work, and way too much moneh). The primary issues are going to be the rearward location of the front crossmember (probably need custom tubular) and the quick drop on the hood at the front. It may require a "bump" like what's already there, but wider, to clear the throttle body.

That said, 9/10 "projects" that show up here with questions as simple as these in the title never get off the ground.
