Check out the For Sale section on here. There are often listings for that kind of thing. Also check out the For Sale section on the Performance Trucks website (see the link).

I'd also check out Car-Part.com. Search for models that have the LQ9 if you're locked into having a 9 and are willing to pay for it. You could also do the LQ4, which is a bit lower compression version (still 6.0l). The LQ4's are a bit more plentiful and go for a fair bit less money. BTW, the LQ9 is rated for 345hp, the LQ4 is rated at 300 to 325 depending upon model year.

I just picked up a complete LQ4 & 4L80E from a yard in RI, out of a 2004 Silverado 2500 with 26,621 miles on it for $2350 shipped (rated @ 325hp & 370 tq). It doesn't have the accessories, but I didn't want / need them anyway. Expect to pay a fair bit more than that for a good deal on an LQ9 / 80E package (I'd expect $4500 to $5000 or so). Something about limited production volume.

Good Luck.

Update well I just bought a 2005 6.0 from a wrecked express van from a local junkyard I'm going to mate it with a 4l60e so "Let the Headaches begin".

I personally would think long and hard about whether I'd stick a 60E behind that 6.0L.

If you're plans are to leave the motor stock (forever) then it may be just fine. But most of the folks who are swapping motors are never happy with just stock and sooner or later start ratcheting up the power. At which point the 60E may be a liability.

Search around on here and on PerformanceTrucks.net for other's experience with the 60E.

Other alternatives are the Turbo 350 or 400 (which don't have overdrive) or the 4L80E (which is basically an electronically controlled Turbo 400 with a .75:1 overdrive added), which is probably what that express van had installed.

The 80E does have some downsides. Weight, rotational inertia (all those bigger parts spinning around take more energy). 1st gear isn't nearly as deep as 1st in the 4L60E (2.48:1 vs 3.06:1 for the 60E) which means the launch off the line isn't as good. And the overdrive isn't as steep (80E uses a .75:1 ratio, the 60E is about .70:1, meaning a few more rpm at cruise with the 80E). Also, the 80E can be more expensive (at least the initial purchase) than a 60E. But, if you save yourself the cost of a rebuild (or 2 or 6) you've definitely made up for the expense.

There are companies building 4l60s that can handle over 1000 hp, so having one properly built for your current and future plans is feasable.

Good info thankyou. I have a silverado ss and I've had problems with the trans and it's a 4l65e which is almost the same as 4l60e. I'll see maybe i'll go 4l80e.

The only ones I found that would fit my 71 were hooker block huggers. They have a small collector but they did fit.

i used stock camaro headers, 98-00 are the only ones that gave a no-hack fit using the ECE GenIII mounts.
