Default 69 Vette Power Plant

So I am buying a 69 Vette.

I am seeing on the net its powered by an LT1??? Is that correct? The owner says it has an HW motor??? I can't find anything online about that.

Anyway, I wasn't sure where to post this, any insight is appreciated.

the old school "LT1" isn't the same as the later 92-97 version LT1. Both are small block Chevy based, but different head architecture and bolt patterns.

A '69 vette is powered by a 1st Gen. motor. I'm not sure what a HW motor is, unless it's the initials of the builder/re-builder. Ask the seller for more details.

OK,

Makes sense. Ill take some pictures of the motor tomorrow and post them. He says its a High performance short block.

So I asked him how it compares to the LS6, he said "I dont know". Hmmmm.

don't want to burst your bubble, but it won't compare at all to a '70 LS6 if that is the engine you are referring to. The 1970 LS6 had 450hp..rated conservatively.

Yup in the caddy.

I didn't think it would come close to the current LS6, but he said it was a buitl motor, i figured he would know if its making more or less than 400/400.

Thanks for the insight guys!

Hmmm the LT-1 didn't come out till 1970, I wonder what was in it before. It was probably still a 350, but it kind of makes you curious. Here is some more info: http://www.vettefinders.com/index.cf...101Story/ID/18 . A stock LT-1 was rated at 370hp.

Exactly, and in 68 it was a 327 short block. So what mystery short block 350 was in this animal?

yup, probably go cheap and just get a used LS1 in there, would love to put an LS6 in there, but this is a toy, and I spent all my toy funds on the Hennessey.
