Default Rev & choking out

So I finally have the car running and I can move it around the shop. I have the headers and cooling system to finish but thats about it. My problem is now when I rev to about 2.5k it dies and loses all response like it just chokes out. I am going to hooking up the DLC s I can pop some codes but any ideas? BTW my upstream O2s aren't connected if it makes a difference. Thanks! -Alex

plenty of fuel pressure at 2.5k rpm? did you hook up a gauge and rev it?

I just checked, its 55-60 start and run and doesn't die down when revved. Its almost like I am hitting a rev limiter like I just lost spark or something. I went and bought my o2s today and it still did it so that eliminates that. It won't rev past 3k. Here are some possibilities:

1) No exhaust just open headers that aren't even welded up yet. No back pressure?
2) No water in the cooling system. I still have to cap off heater lines and such and still need to put a belt on it. I would imagine the coolant temp sensor is ready goofy with no water in it but it should still rev up for being just ran not even 5 seconds.
3) Too much fuel. The guy I had tune it turned the A/F ratio down to 13.0. Maybe flooding out with cold enrichment?
4) PCM still needs to learn. Maybe I just need to drive it and get a full PCM cycle going?

Other than that stuff I have idea... Exhaust will be down this weekend so that will eliminate that as well as the cooling system. can I cap the lines off for the heater or do they need to be rerouted back with a U hose? -Alex

Do these PCMs have a "safe mode"? Could the lack of a coolant reading cause the PCM to limit RPM? I had a modern computer contolled outboard motor that would do that.

yeah kinda like a limp mode.. that's strange. a rich condition would not suddenly cut off at a specific RPM.. it'd bog.

Once I get a DLC hooked up I'll try to scan for some codes. If its in Limp mode it may not rev or may not switch to closed loop. As for the bogging thats almost what it seems to be doing. If I hold the pedal steady at 2.5k it will rev and die rev and die etc, with the pedal being held at the same spot. Maybe it needs to be driven for block learn? It may just be the stupid IAC trying to find its spot. Any other ideas?

haha thats good, i was going to say it might be something to do with the tranny programming, i know that some GMs limit what you can rev to when the car is in nuetral or park,

now go and have fun, im starting my 944 conversion,
