i don tknow, but judging by how much i beat the **** out of ls1 rev limiters and havent blown one up yet might be okay.

but that could be just luck.

i seen a video of mike on goggle and he was all over that rev limiter after a spin out. must have bounce off that thing 30 times in in a few secs.

had a little scare today in mine. it started missing really bad and i stoped and i guess the heat from the headers did it (i dunno) but it was just a loose plug wire.

mike, i see in your sig looks like your going to do a s14. why the change? i know i heard it was more balanced out i was just wondering if thats why.

Default s13 vs s14

Sport Compact Car is one of my favorite mags after hot rod and Grass roots motor sports. I once wrote Dave Coleman (the engineering editor at SCC) and asked him why he chose the S13 over the S14. He actually wrote me back. But it was a little pompous, "because its the best starting platform obviously." I have since found out the the S14 (even though it was less popular in Japan, has TWICE the torsional rigidity of the S13. And weighs no more than 60 lbs more. Another advantage in my, never to be humble, opinion is that it doesn't look like it used to belong to an 80's butt rocker.

it looks cooler and nobody has one (kouki)

ls2 because it supposedly moves the crank/cam angle sensors to the front timing cover, and with a cam+blower that will make the exact power i want.

right now though it looks like ill just be making twin ls13s, well see.

new info:

weighed the car today with a low-buck scale setup that TedJ had. car came in at just over 2700 with a 1/2 tank of gas. no rear half interior, trunk interior, spare, or jack in the car. bolt-in 6 point cage with door bars, full front interior including heavy stock passenger's seat (will be replaced soon with very light OMP fiberglass seat).

i'll let Ted get the exact numbers up for distribution, but it's about 54/46 front to rear if i recall the numbers correctly.

I went ahead and started a new thread so people could see the numbers in the first post:

He typo'd it, he meant to type a little over 2700. It weighed in at 2732.

Really enjoy reading about all of these 240/LS1 swaps, and it makes me a bit envious. Keep up the good work. I have been reading everyone’s swaps and was looking at the motor mounts and remembered that there were some cheap S-10 SBC motor mounts that I would think, with a little work, would work. They have long bolt holes so you can move the motor back in forth for optimal position. Only thing that might need to be done is to shim it higher, or trim it to be a little lower. There are two types, 4x4 and 4x2 mounts (the frames are different).

Here are the 4x2 mounts.

Here are the 4x4 mounts.

Or even Astro mounts...

Also, the S-10 have a problem with the steering linkage in the way of the headers, maybe the S-10 headers could serve as a good starting point.

Hi ,
can you advise what the part number and Mfg, is of the black plastic right angle air intake you are using on your LS1 and air filter...I have been looking now and cant find it...

will it fit a stock 2002 firebird Ls1 throttle body?

Big thanks

While you are at it, can you give some details on your oil cooler setup. Thanks, Ken.

i think i replied in your post about this, but i got mine from intakehoses.com. it's a rubber 4" to 3.5" reducing 90*. it most certainly does fit the stock 02 'bird TB, as that's what my motor is out of .

no oil cooler on this car, that's a cooler for the power steering just run inline with the return hose since i had to lose the stock "loop" cooler to notch the crossmember.

there's no wrong way to do your mounts really, it's all in your imagination. if i wasn't so pressed for time on my setup i likely would've taken a slower approach to it and come up with something a little easier, but the hotrod mounts did the trick and were a nice direct cut and weld process. pretty much everyone else has come up with some form of multi-piece mounts that utilize the factory engine mounting points on the subframe.
