66 elcomino+cammed ls1=? Hi, i just joined the website. i have been watching it for about a year and noticed all the conversions do.Anyways i just bought a 66 elcomin out of texas.Floors had rust but nothing else. Replaced them and now thinking motor. I know i want to do a cammed ls1 and t56. How hard do you thing this will be? What cam for a daily driver. I think it's got to be fairly mild for 11-1200 rpm's ant 55mph.The car is going on bags and is going to be my daily drive. NOt worried about time, cause i have 8 months to get permit.

These motors make good power all the way to 7k and they have smooth idle.
Do you want a car with a nice idle and good low end ?
I would maybe do the ls6 (good for 15ish hp over stock)

If you go with a T-56 6 speed you should be able to keep the rpms relatively low even with 3.73 rear end gears. Alot of people say that something like a 224/224 cam with some like .56x/.56x lift would be a good mild daily driver cam. You can make any cam daily driveable with a good tune and driveability is in the eyes of the beholder. Many people with 4th gen F-body's love their Trex cams for their daily drivers. Personally I am going with a 228/228 .588/.588 on a 112lsa for my daily driver. Its up to you really.

i own a 66 elky as well....i ended up stuffing a 455 stage 2 motor and a auto w/ overdrive in it since i am using my lsx motor and t56 for my 52 styleline... mine had 3.73's in it stock, so i would venture to say yours prolly does too.
