quick pics from this mornings partial dissasembly.

i tell you one thing. these motors come apart and put back together a hell of alot easier than most 4 cylinders.

pulled the oil pan and wasnt to suprised with the results. milky ice cream oil but no one shard or flake of metal!!!

pretty dirty

someone left ice cream on my pickup :p

big ol rear main seal

final result is bottom end loks pretty solid. im very confident to say the motor didnt run with wtaer in it and that it more than likely leaked in from rain into the meteorite impacted valve cover

Yucky! To be honest I think the engine is okay you just need to flush it out. Since you're walking the walk now, I am at service to my advice on AIM hahaha. Rod bolts, bearings, grind crank, hone block, heads and cam and youre ready to rock!

Also remember to use three if not four .002" feeler gauges around the outside of the crankshaft to that of the oil pump before tightening it down or you'll be rebuilding the engine again sometime soon when the oil pump goes out!

so i would assume there has to be a gap of .002 between the oil pump and the outside are of the crank shaft after touqred down?

Yeah, you put the oil pump on loose and push the four feeler gagues into place around the crankshaft and then you tighten down the oil pump. I'm pretty sure it's .002", that can be double checked though. The big thing to note is that you've got to make sure to do it or else the oil pump will get destroyed from what I've read.
