Default Hmm... Ford Five Hundred?

Hey all,

I've been toying with the idea of a modified Ford Five Hundred. They're plain-jane, big (but seem to weigh around 3700lbs, which isn't TOO bad), and would be total sleepers with a worthy engine.

The LS1 was my first choice, but thought some people here might have some good options too. List of 'likes.' I'd like to get the car into the low 12's, if not cracking high 11's. I'd like for it to be a comfortable, heckuva highway cruiser/bruiser (basically a Ford sedan to compete with the Mercedes and BMWs of the world, the way Ford should've done it). I'd like, for what it is, semi-decent gas mileage.

Anyone have any thoughts concerning the engine idea? LS1 was the first option to jump into my head, but I know there are some decent Ford options as well, and thought someone might have an idea for some of those strokers I've heard about...

I'd like a six-speed automatic that could hold up to the power, but would probably have to end up with the six-speed manual. Which is too bad. Wife wants an automatic, now that we're 'parents.'

But we'll see how that turns out.

Hell if you are willing to deal with a FWD V8 just get a Imp SS and debadge it. A hell of alot easier.

actually im 99% sure the 500 comes with an awd option.

if your any good at fabricating (which imo if you have the resources to do this you would have just done it instead of makign a thread on the internet about it) an awd blown ls2 would be some hard **** to compete with.

They do have the AWD option.

I would want to convert it to RWD.

I was a little toasted last night. I'm considering a Crown Vic instead. Already RWD, has plenty of room in the engine bay.

I own one and it definitely needs more motor than it came with. Can't get out of its own way. Good for my kids though, can't get in much trouble.

they made a 500 with a ford gt motor haha. its numbers werent that impressive. Also. not for sale to the public of course. Plus 500s havent been out more than like 2 years.. why spend all that money to tear it apart..

I almost bought a sellable Lincoln LS test car with a blown engine we had at work and was gonna put a ls1 in it. It already had a cage and all. Would have been a great road coarse car

Yea and the motor was where the rear seats are. Not very practical. Crown Vic is a much better idea no matter what engine you use.

yep
we used them as track cars and tier 4 driving class vehicles
Most of our vehicle dynamics test cars had cages in them too.
Too bad that ford is going under and I got let go after 6 years

why go with ford?? if you want a 4 door cruiser, id get a 95-96 impala SS. drop in a forged lt1 or ls1, a 4L80E and a procharger, you will be ready to go. if you insist on ford, that previously said lincon LS would be my second choice. both have great styling, and decent handling(for a big body).

Those Lincolns are sexy, sexy.

And I'm already a big fan of the Impalas...
