Got the ls1/6spd Fox Mustang weighed today..........Happy!
hey guys.......
for all of you who are doing the same swap, i thought i would post up the results of the weigh in. i had it done at a certified "CAT" scale twice. once weighing the front & rear seperately, and once all together and both came out identical so i'm very confident the weight is correct.
first weigh......
1860 front ...............1630 without me......57% @ 2850 lbs.
1220 rear ................1220 .....................43% @ 2850 lbs.
------------
3080 lbs. (both times).
- 230 (me)
------------
2850 lbs.
both times i weighed were done with me (Exactly 230lbs) standing next to the front drivers side of the car (talking into the speaker box), no spare or jack, 1/8 tank of gas.
Lightening of the car to date includes......
---------------------------------------------------
obviously ls1 vs 5.0
tubular k-member & a-arms (m/s i think)
poly bucket seats
dash & door speakers romoved (still has rear speakers)
the car still retains heat, p/s, p/b, p/w, p/l, p/t, bulky 6spd, back seat, heavy 17" rims all around, stock hood, and no gutting.
Lightening plans over the winter & future include....
-------------------------------------------------------------
Weld rims all around (-50 lbs)?
Strange drag brakes (13" Cobra brakes now) (-35)?
th350 trans (-35)?
manual steering (-20)?
manual brakes (no booster= -8lbs)
fiberglass hood (bolt on) (-20)?
swap stock front & rear impact bars for c/m tubular pieces (-25)?
remove airbag (-8)?
Lose 50-75lbs again! (lost it 6 yrs ago and put it back on again!)
misc. (-25-50+)?
Add 60-65lbs for 6pt moly cage/100lbs for 10pt once i reach 9's eventually.
i'm not sure how light i can make it and still be street'able/safe, but i'm hoping to get to 2800 Race Weight. Time will tell. thanks for looking and hope it helps someone out.

Man, those are the stat's I was looking for!
That's wicked nice weight.
You planning on any chassis stiffening beyond the moly cage? Or is it sufficient with a cage (or without) ? (I know next to nothing about fox body's)

you give me hope that I can get mine down to around 2700 lbs without my fat *** in it
Im ripping the HVAC out, most of the interior, its a manual locks/windows car. it'll have a tubular front suspension. no PS/AC or other accessories on the engine. just an alternator and an electric water pump.
the only thing that will add a ton of weight is my 4L80E. its a heavy sum'bitch!

probably, but race weight if i'm not mistaken includes the driver doesn't it? i've never really been clear on that, but it makes sence to me to include the driver.
can anyone confirm this 100%???

Decided to go to the track today for a couple passes with some rear draglite's & M/T drag radials. i know i wont be able to drive a stick to it's full potential as i've never powershifted and don't plan on trying it, but hoping for at least 12.5's. i'll post up results later this afternoon probably after 4pm.
btw.....the fatter 275/50/15's on Welds vs. '98+GT rims with 245/45/17's are actually 4 lbs heavier, so when the skinnies go on they better take off a LOT of weight!

ok, so i didn't do so well at shifting, but that was no surprise. i can drive a truck all day, drive the car to and from work, but can't shift when it counts to save my life. guess i'm just not cut out for it, but that's why i've got the 3spd auto sitting on standby! i'll just post my best and only clean pass of the 4 i made and the best 60" & 1/8 besides that. oh, and the car weighed Exactly 2850 lbs. on the track scale too, so it's official.
60'......1.926
1/8......8.202
mph.....90.08
1/4......12.63
mph.....109.93
best 60'.......1.729
best 1/8.......8.083
this was all done on 87 oct, 1/2 tank of gas, 15psi M/T 26" DR's, and front struts set to their loosest setting.
oh yea, my only full pass........ i went through the traps in 3rd Gear @6000rpm!!!
to sum it up....it probably could have run 12.20-12.40's, so there is a LOT more left in the car with a stock '99 motor with only an ls6 intake, K&N, good exhaust, and 3.27 gears. i'm gonna see what i can get the car down to in this form in the spring with the th350 on a brake, 4800+stall, 4.10's & 28's, and about 100-150lbs lighter and a few more ponies minus the p/s. i'd also like to get a tune & a Fast 90/90 eventually before putting in a T-Rex cam.

are you going to fab your own roll-cage? if so, why not just use DOM (drawn over mandrel) tubing, basically the same strength, it's less expensive, easier to weld, and it weighs only 4 lbs more per 20ft stick if I remember correctly. other than that, that's a pretty sick mustang you got there. good luck with the lightening.
