ls1 f-body accessories vs. corvette accessories
Hello I have a 69 chevelle with a f-body ls1&4l60e.
The problem is that the engine is a bit too high tilted up in front, because of the alternator hitting the steering box.I need to get the engine a bit lower because i got vibration under driving over 40mph..Is it possible to put the alternator another place?Anyone tried this? Or do I need the corvette accessories?

Your water pump is ok but you need everything else. P.S. pump, alternator, tensioner, balancer, etc.

Search the salvage yards. You may need to piece it together from a couple yards.
Swapping drive systems can get pretty pricey, especially since there isn't much vette stuff around (lower production volumes and all). I've seen guys list complete drive setups for $1200.
Also, you've got to change the harmonic balancer.
You really should look into a bracket that mounts your existing alternator up high.

The truck accessories will fit the engine.
The truck layout is very similar to the 'vette package, alt up high, PS pump below. I would guess it'll clear the steering box.
The truck access are probably 2" longer (towards the radiator) than the f-body package, which only you can tell whether you have the room.
Swapping from the f-body package to the truck package will require you to change pretty much everything. Water Pump, Balancer, all the accessories. You "might" be able to reuse your existing alternator (installing it on the truck bracket) but that's a big maybe. And the AC compressor stuff is different too (if you're using AC).
BTW, if you go the truck access route, I've got a stock truck balancer and water pump off a 26,xxx mile '04 Silverado. If you're interested PM / email me an offer. I had to switch to the C5 access on my Bravada (S10) swap. Nothing else fits, and its still really really really tight between the PS pump pulley and the drivers side electric fan.....

The truck accessories will NOT fit with the LS1 intake manifold without modifications. The idler pulley and truck water pump radiator hose outlet will hit the throttle body. Also, you have to check your hood clearance with the alternator. It sits quite high with the truck brackets.
Here's a rundown of what you get into from the truck forum:

Shoot, I forgot about the intake clearance issue.....
I still expect your best bet is to search for a high mount alternator setup for your f-body brackets....Because at that point, you don't have to swap EVERYTHING.

Hmm.I wonder what to do.. I have taken off my alternator and tryed to put it a place where it can fit.seems like I must go for a homemade bracket maybe.but it will not be easy to make..
I think the truck alternator will be too high in my compartment.
Thanks for the answers dudes
(Maybe a steering rack would be the answer.. )

I think you're on the right track with a bracket. You just need to figure out if you can buy it or if you have to build it....

Will the alt clear if you move it to above the belt tensioner? I have seen some brackets to mount it there, I can`t remember if they were home made though. The turbo guys move them up there to run twin turbos in f-bodies.
