Anyone know where I could go for information on the Mercedes 300E mentioned earlier? There's a black one down the street for sale - $2200, 1985 - and I'd like to check out some information on which years/models are best for my use. What to look for, what to avoid...nice option packages, etc.
I nearly ran into a curb when we passed it and my wife said she liked it. And she gives me my allowance, so...

Better body cladding and interior, 93's will be more expensive because of 2.8 twin cam motor.
94-95 are called e320's and have the 3.2 twin cam motor, even more expensive.
If you can find a 400e(300e with 4.2 v8)for cheap enough, they have more underbody heat panels and made for a 32v v8.
They are always overheating and engine wiring harnesses cost $1000 and always go bad. So maybe you could get one cheap in your area.
I know you want a 4-door but I know a guy who is selling a 300ce(2door 300e) with no motor or tranny for $1250.

There is also another member here doing a 300e LSx

:EDIT:As for the volvo argument...older volvo interiors look like euro toyota's.
Compare the interior's 300e vs 940 almost same year .
As for exteriors....not much of a comparison IMO

Thanks so much for the links. I think I'll be getting one of these soon. I want to do a little more reading and see what type of suspension aftermarket is available... The engine will come after the suspension.

Plus, they totally look like granny cars (cause they are). Buy an AARP sticker for it for the total sleeper effect.

Get the Benz. Over-engineered like no other car. These are amazing cars but no power. FYI, they are also some of the safest cars around (thoughts to help rationalization with wife) and have a prestige value all by themselves. But then I'm prejudiced. :-)
This is my '87 560SEC. The black plastic LSx replica engine is next to the car and the '02 LS6 is in the background.
