ODB2 port problem?

Default ODB2 port problem?

I have just finished a swap of a 98 LS1 into my 94 firebird. Car runs great, but I can't get HPTuners to connect to the PCM through the ODB2 port. I wired it up by this diagram and have tripple checkeed all four wires, the 12+ is live all the time, not switched, grounds are good and the serial data has been tested back to the PCM and it is correct. Yet when I try to read the PCM it says to check and make sure the key is on teh on position and the cable is connected? WTF?

The 98s are different, they have 2 serial data wires. Let me see if I can dig up a diagram.

I have the second one hooked up too, it goes to the # 9 port.

BTW for reference though, the #9 port is not even used on the HPTuners cable. There is no prong on the connector there......

I know the cable works on my 99 and several other 99-02 cars, I wanna say its been tested on a 98 too before

Then you have to figure out what is wired wrong. The grounds and power are easy, so double check that pin 2 of the ALDL is going to PCM BLUE 58. That's the Class 2 serial data. Make sure you didn't get mixed up with the UART serial data line that goes to PCM BLUE 3. That isn't needed at all.

I have confirmed this already. Are the grounds supposed to go to any specific pin on the PCM or any ground is good enough?

Technically the grounds are supposed to be run separately, but I have seen a lot of people just tie them together directly behind the port and then run a single ground without any problems(me included). They can be grounded to anywhere there is a grounded piece of metal. I tied mine into the dashboard ground, but if your having problems mabey try grounding them to the same place that you grounded all your computer grounds.

I tried them together and seperate, I know the grounds are good Ive tested them

can a bad PCM do something like this?
