Where to connect steam tube LS2/LS7?
I need to order a radiator for my LS7 project and am trying to decide the best place to connect the steam tube to. Direct to radiator....or to one of the hoses? I don't want to drill and tap the water pump if possible. Any pics showing how you did it would be great. Thanks!!

I suppose it depends a lot on your particular needs, space, and cosmetics (if that applies). If you're running a filler tank, you could plumb them there. Otherwise, the top of the radiator like a Camaro, etc., is it. BTW, these guys have a nice steam vent adapter fror 1/8 NPT which allows for running any kind of line; AN, hose, etc. They're cheap as well.

Another option is to just drill and tap a hole in the top of the waterpump and screw a bung into it and run the hose down just a couple of inches. Can't even see it when done and doesn't require a modification to the radiator or elsewhere.

I made an insert that I inserted into the upper hose near the vent tube. Just used a piece of exhaust tubing and welded in a bung. Then ran a beed around the OD to give the hose something to seal on. It's self explanitory buy I can get you a pic if you need.

The steam tube should be plumbed into the highest point of the cooling system to avoid air locks. I am surprised that they guys who tap it into the water pump have not had problems

No plugging them is not good. The rear two came plugged on Z06's because the front two are higher ( from level ) than the rear so the steam migrates forwards and up and out the front two but it seems when LS1's take out a cyl its usuallly at the rear of the engine caused either by air crashing into the intake leaning out the rear cyls or maybe the steam tubes being plugged causing concentrated overheat leading to lean condition and kaboom.

On some applications it is plumbed low right from the factory so going into the water pump is fine.

I am also going to order a radiator from Streetrodstuff for my 57 project with 1999 Camaro LS-1 .
Where do you recommend to mount the outlets and do I need extra fittings more than one vent hose fitting?

Here's my 5.3 GMC Envoy engine. The black hose is the the steam line. It is tee'd into the heater hose just a few inches above the ports on the side of the water pump. This is the stock factory setup.

I "T" ed into the heater hose with my car when I put it together because I did not have an extra bung in my radiator. I did not notice any problems, but ever since I put the car together the heat has not been as hot as before. At least twice I pulled the hoses by the heater core and noticed it was air bound, I wonder if the TB bypass has been pushing air into my heater core. I know that I have an air pocket in my upper radiator hose because it is the highest point in the system, maybe the air was making its way into the engine, coming out the TB bypass and ending up in my heater core????
Anyway I now have a radiator with an extra bung so I guess I `ll have to change it and see what happens. I`ll post back with what I find, but it probably won`t be for a couple weeks, I have final exams next week so the only thing I`m doing is studying I`ll try and change it the week after and see how it works out.

I got a little curious about this so I checked and found according to the GM LS1 swap installation guide ( pn 88959384 ) it states on page 7;
Thats an exact quote they even put the exclamation mark so....
Then it says;
take it as you will
Connect cylinder head air bleeds and coolant return line to outlet radiator hose or return side of radiator. Cylinder heads air bleeds must connect to fill bottle or highest point of cooling system above coolant level!
Then it says;
NOTE: failure to connect the cylinder head air bleeds properly can cause an internal air lock and result in engine damage
take it as you will

Sounds dangerous however I ran with the air bleeds connected from one head to the other and not re-circulated back into the coolant system at all for over a year on a previous 6.0 swap...
Never had any over heating problems or anything like that...
