The 07 5.3L trucks have the steam line going into the radiator.

Controversial topic. You will find many opinions. We though about tapping the water pump, but since we are using the stock rad from the donor, we are just going to run the line to the nipple on it. Have not found any concrete evidence that tapping the pump for the line is a bad thing, many people are doing it, and their cars are running fine. This is the best looking option.

I highly recommend using the search feature on this one - try things like "steam line" or "steam vent" you'll get tons of results.

Meanwhile, I posted a little how to with pictures and info about this:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....1&postcount=41

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....5&postcount=49

First link is particular info on part numbers and other stuff. Second link is the howto with pics.

Some 67rsss is right - controversial topic - you will find people who swear on their maker that the steam line must be vented at a point higher than the exit from the block. I can name off at least two dozen people here who are using the water pump method I used with absolutely zero problems though, so I am very, very hesitant to believe them.

One downside of tapping the water pump is if your out of town and you have to replace the water pump you would have to tap the new one. I try and make stuff easy to swap or fix on the road.

Mine is tapped into the top of the waterpump. The stock waterpump is very thin and very prone to cracking if overtightened. I had a water pump start leaking and had to replace it and had to redrill the new one. It was much thicker than the stock. I got if from vatozone. But yeah, I have put many miles on it and have had no cooling problems. Josh

I tapped the water pump and I know several other people that have done that as well. Works great and helps lessen clutter.

Or just go to your local auto parts store and get a T-line for the heater hose or upper radiator hose as a temporary standby. It's not like you "have to" drill and tap on the side of the road.

My alum radiator had a tapped fitting that I was able to just add a barb and connected the steam hose to.
