Default 88 iroc conversion

Ok i ahve found an 88 iroc. i was wondering if this is a good year to put a ls1 in or waht. plus its an a4 and i want a 6 speed, so how hard is it goign to be in convert that over and how much more would it cost other than the motor conversion.

Check out www.speartech.com for John's z28 project. As for the trans conversion, I would try to find a donor 5 speed F-body and get the bulk of the parts from there.

Out of the LS1 production cars the 2001-2002 LS1 engines are the most desireable. However you can pick up an earlier version cheaper and mod it up to 01-02 specs.

Conversions are not cheap. However, the aftermarket is starting to support this swap so you will be slightly ahead of some of us in terms of dollars. More money for mods. I would plan 6,500 as a good figure for the swap. Remember there are a lot of variables so the number can go up or down depending on what you do.

Check out my website in terms of converting from A4 to M6. Its relatively easy. Basicly you need the brake and clutch pedals, and the center console plate.

i'm wonderin if theres a way to keep my factory gauges workin after an ls1 swap. i have an 89 iroc mass air car w cable driven speedo

Yes, you can keep ALL of your factory gages working. The speedo can be done a couple of ways. Probably the easiest is with the "cable-x" box from Abbott.

hey speartech u seem to now lots about this swap, so what is the best year to use? and can u use a v6 camero or do u ahve to do way to much suff to it??

As far as what year to use, I would think it is your choice. Thru the years they all had minor cosmetic differences, which ever one you like best is your call.

The best car to use.... one that is not rotted out from rust, no accidents, etc.

As far as a V6 is concerned you would have to replace the front springs and maybe the shocks too. I think in most cases people are going to upgrade all of the suspension components anyway, either for drag use or for road race/autocross use.

ok yea i was goign to replace shocks, sturts everything that has to do with that kind of stuff, so would you go with a v6 then instead of a v8, cheaper and insurance will be cheaper too
