Default rwd celica ls1?

everyones heard of v8 miatas or rx7s, yada yada

i have a friend who was gonna spend 7 grand on 230 rwhp on a crappy 4 cyl swap, so i told him to drop a ls1 in it

with the rwd conversion pretty easy in the car, would there be a tranny and motor mounts possible for him or just stupid?

tranny shouldnt be the biggest problem if he already figure out the rear suspension / diff and stuff
mounting has to be all custom made i m sure he know that

btw i dont think 7 grand is possible

There is this dude that swapped an F20C from an S2K into his old school Celica and now he's doing an LS1 swap. The car was in one of those import mags. Just do it man...

the front clip from the jdm car he wants alone is 4k, and i can see easy 3 k in spending on any machining/fab/repair parts haha

I think he meant a $7k LS1 swap isn't possible. What kind of Celica is it? Old ones were already RWD, some were AWD, so it would be more feasible if it was old, not a newer FWD model.

well his model is fwd but he was gonna convert it to awd with his swap, if he put the 4cyl turbo in, and he was just gonna not put the fwd components in and have it rwd only, but is that a rediculous amount to spend or not enough?

older celicas ( i believe '91-'95) were available in japan and europe in AWD configurations. Therefore, the parts for converting a U.S celica to AWD are already on the market reducing what you would have to fab from scratch, etc, etc. Are you sure that an LS1 could even fit in the engine bay of a celica? It's awful tight in there. IF your friend really really wants to do the LS swap, by all means he should do it. But if he's on the fence about it and is looking for a more reasonably priced project, the AWD 4cyl is the way to go. Even if it does cost him 7 grand, an LS1 swap would cost much more. Just my 2 cents.

My first car was an '85 Celica, and it is the last year of the rwd. I was going to drop a sbc into it, even have pictures of it sitting in between the strut towers. But then I came across a '67 Camaro and bought that instead. I still have the Celica and, back when I was still driving it I found an 89 Supra (3.73 solid) rear-end and installed it with energy suspension poly-bushings. But am currently converting my 92 Chevy SCSB pickup to iron block LS1... I know it can be done on the older celicas. The trans tunnel is small though... but if your serious about it, custom tunnel would be easy to fab.

i know that right now....the older celicas (celica supras is what they were called) before 85 were great. i am currently working on one at work....its a black 84 and the guy wants to pretty much redo it....and its a wreck. the body and everything is in great shape, but the engine bay and wires, and BLAH, nightmare man. It is a strait 6, and its a great engine. but from what you are saying its a newer 4 banger correct? im guessing mid 90s model. and from what i have heard....small block swaps are pretty extensive. it can be done....but 7k aint gonna do it. more like 15k. it would be more than the car is worth....but then again...who knows how much he could sell it for once the swap is done....considering its done right.

the US got AWD turbo celicas. they are just pretty rare and are all broke by now. i'd just sell it and buy a different car, thats my opinion though.

lol his dad won't let him sell, trust me that guy wants anything BUT his celica, but its a 94 so the rwd wouldn't be the hard part, motor mounts would be rough i think?

Yah, the Japanese spec AWD Celica would be pretty fast w/ a LS1 IMO! Talk about sleeper/rally car!

Go for it. I like the older celicas and it would be a diffinate sleeper, but its not happening for anywhere near $7k. It'll be in to the 5 digits easily.

Make him post his progress if he does it!

what are you talking about? Motor mounts are a breeze compared to a custom subframe
