I bought the car from a friend as a roller. The 3.8 was out of there years ago. He had a stage II motor in there that went 9.10's. I don't know how some guys got these shoenfelds to fit without hammering the crap out of them. I rather return them then do that.

They were so far from going in that I really don't know what they were hitting. I will post pics next week when the real motor and tranny are in.

Just a quick update.

While waiting in engine jail I decided to upgrade my car to 4-wheel disk brakes. Have to be able to stop after the influx of stroker LSX power.

setup since the car had already had a 1LE front brake upgrade. Basically the kit includes 11&5/8 rear rotors and brackets for GM metric calipers. I'm going to use 80-85 Cadillac parking brake rear calipers. If I had to do it over the ZO6 brakes would have been nice. The rear setup will end up running me around 250-300.

Now if I could only go back to november of 1978 and bean the line worker who snapped off a bolt holding the rear drum backing plate to the rear end.

Let me start by saying DO NOT BUY SCHOENFELD HEADERS !!! They are no where near fitting a G-Body with a LS1. I have a LS1 block with conversion motor mount plates bolted to the block and I am using Moroso solid SBC mounts.
I wouldn't be so quick to slam these headers until we understand which mounts you are using and where your motor mounts are placing your motor in relation to the stock SBC motor! Just imaging.....if the Schoenfelds are designed for a stock location fitment and you used mounts that placed your motor 2" from this would you still expect them to fit? I'm not trying to slam or ridicule you and I just want to make sure that everyone understands your frame of reference including me!

AMEN! I think we really need pictures to see where they are touching. I dont have access to alot of tools so Im trying to make my swap as bolt in as possible. These headers are like a good send if they do fit my needs.

Here are some pics JustinB sent me awhile back of his Shoenfeld headers installed in his Regal. He made his own mounts and the motor is as far back as possible.

Do we know how far back the motor sits compared to the OEM SBC as a reference? How did they fit using his mounts?

My motor sits in the stock location. If I had mounts that moved my motor further back then maybe they would fit. I described my motor mounts to the guy at schoenfeld who told me that they will fit fine. Its funny on how my f-body set fits this car like a charm though. Got my Hughes Turbo 400 tonight. So I think the motor and tranny are going in Wednesday night. I'll try to take pics.

Have you verified the measurements with a SBC? How did you clear the engine crossmember with your block in the stock location?

Are you talking about the oil pan? Because I have a S&S modified oil pan. I am using ebay conversion LS1 mounts and not the ones that move the motor further back.

No, He didn't go into detail about that but he did say the headers fit pretty good.

Well the 408 and Turbo 400 are in. I just came out of the garage and I am beat. I'm supposed to pick up my headers from my friends house tomorrow. I'll try to slide them in and post pics tomorrow night. Good night.

Hey man good luck with the swap i chose to have a reputable shop in my town do the hard **** since i have no access to welders and things of that sort. Shortly after they have done that tho, im gonna put some miles on it(01 ls1 with 6sp), then unbolt my front clip and radiator and do a cam swap(comp cams xr269hr) along with all the recommended extras(springs and lifters etc) and maybe depending on money at the time will replace the heads with some RHS stuff.

I have an LS2 in mine. I've put on about 3000 miles on mine since the swap and loving every minute of it. Anyone who is contemplating the swap should do it, it's well worth it. I went with Hooker Fbody headers w/ John B's mounts. Click on my sig, I have some pix of what I had to do to the header to make them fit. I would like to see if the schoenfields fit better?

The Schoenfelds will not fit unless the motor moves back 1.5 to 2 inches. I'm using F-Body headers and have to message them on the passenger side the same way as SilverBullet73.

I'm getting ready to do a 5.3 or a 6.0 iron block in mine. Can someone tell me if the valve cover/coil & wires, etc.. clear the stock heater box. I am planning on keeping my heat and AC.
