Default Some ?? on LS swap into Foxbody

Alright well I've decided to find/build a notchback and was wondering what the total cost of a LS1 and t56 into a foxbody are...don't have to include all the details of the swap but just the total you invested for it to run and fit correctly and perform....Thanks for any input....

yeah dude. you know what they say: if you have to ask...
Realistically though, I've heard/seen them done for around 6500-7000.
As with any other swap just be sure to plan, plan and plan some more. That's the best way to keep costs down IMO.
The thing about the swap itself is that it's alot of work, but you don't need to do stuff like cut the firewall (as with the 300zx conversion) or hack the fenders as with an MGB. Most of the complications come from the fact that most of the parts have to be custom made and if you can do that custom work yourself, you've saved yourself a ton.

Yeah I think most conversions can be done for around 7000-7500 on average. the more unique the job the higher the price goes. Mine will run around 6500-7000 I think. It should pay for its self in about 4 years with the fuel savings though.

that's really not as bad as i thought it would be as far as cost goes.....i thought it would've been more of a unique application than building a 306 or 347 which is pretty much in every 5.0 out there....Well I'm looking forward to this project....

There's alot of guys putting LSX motors into fox bodies so there is plenty of help out there. as far as aftermarket mounts and crossmember's I dont know but some searching will fix that for you.

My goal is to stay under $15k, complete. The rough numbers:
1987 Mustang, running and driving, but with a bad transmission: $2700
Rebuilt AOD: $300
--- drive car for a year or so ---
Sell motor and transmission, computer, harness, etc.: -$700
Rebuilt 4L60e: $700
Used Vigilante 3200: $350
1998 Camaro engine harness: $150
1999 PCM: $25
Vehicle repaint: $1200
2003 Mustang GT leather seats: $600
New carpet: $120
New embroidered floor mats: $60
New headliner: $20
Camaro shifter w/ cable: $10
Forged motor: $2000 (traded some work for a portion)
60lb injectors: $310
Complete Camaro A/C system: ??? (can't remember)
Camaro fans w/ shroud: $50
Wolfe subframe connectors: $225
Wolfe torque box plates: $25
Misc hose and such: $200
255lph fuel pump: $120
MSD Plug wires: $65
13 inch 4 wheel disc brakes used: $400
5 lug conversion stuff: $60
Moser 31 spline axles: $200
Ford Motorsport 31 spline T-loc: $150
New wheels / tires (not ordered yet, price is estimated): $1500

------------------------------------------
So right there, I'm almost to 11 grand .. There's still the turbo setup, and some other odds and ends to consider before it's "done." Things like new headlights to replace the yellowing stockers, etc. Then again, were I to have started with a cleaner car that didn't need any body work or I would have left the interior stock, it could have been cheaper. It's all in what YOU want to spend, and what your goals are.

I'm in the process right now of finding a fairly clean notch that already has new paint and a new interior or atleast one that was taken care of fairly decent. Well I thank you for all of the great input and advice and can't wait to get started.

I think that is the key for this project...start with something that has a good body and paint.

I'm definitly going for something that has been taken good care of so atleast while I'm buying all the parts for the conversion I can still drive it daily and then I'm hoping for the conversion itself to be done over a 2-3 week process. I'm going to get all of the parts needed for the conversion together first and then start the actual project that way I can atleast have everything in order to throw it in the car in a good time frame (atleast that's what I'm hoping for lol).

Being pissed off about my car sitting in "paint jail" for the past 7 months, I would DEFINITELY recommend getting a clean car to start with. SO much easier!

Take a look over at Corral.net - they have a specific section for "rollers" and I've seen some nice cars in there for reasonable prices. I was looking for a 4 cyl. notch at one time in there for the same reason everyone listed here. I wanted a car that already had a decent interior and paint, but everything was a little out of my budget for the project, so I'm going to use the 5.0 I already have. I think the $6,500 - $7,500 is a reasonable range if you do most of the work yourself.

ok, im bored so ill give my estimate so far(car's not running yet):
1981 notchback - $500
2002 LS1/4l60e dropout - $2600
6pt bar/trans crossmember/subframe connectors - $1400
AJE k-member/a-arms/spring mounts - $800
springs, shocks, sway bars, rear control arms - $700
fuel system - $500
8.8 rear, rebuild kit, girdle, gears, axles, studs - $400
1988 mustang GT kmember, brakes, swaybar, rack, etc $100

sub-total @ $6100

credits lol:
old engine/trans - $300
catalytic converter - $65
'88 gt kemember(-brakes) $100
scrap metal $105

...so basically i got the car for free, i still need an exhaust system, driveshaft, and some other misc items (IE: tuning, tires for the pony wheels, etc)

if you are building a street car and dont want a roll bar $6500 is easily attainable...
