Identifying a LQ9......hopefully not a LQ4.

can u identify this engine
The book is wrong. They all are have throttle by wire from 2003 till today. Sorry. If you can find the VIN in the engine I can run it and let you know what is from. I have a 2002 LQ4 that has a cable, 2003 went to throttle by wire in the trucks. PM me the VIN if you have it.

LQ4 could have an issue with T56 bolting up to it due to the thick crank flange, not sure about the LQ9. Pull a plug and look into the cyl with a borescope and you'll know for sure what you have.

i never needed a borescope to check piston dish if the engine is out of the vehicle. i use one of these and stick my eyeball down there next to it.

with 15* valve heads it's pretty easy to see the piston at TDC

LQ9 and LQ4 use the same block. The difference is in the innards.....
