Stock 5.3 manifold fit...
Hi guys,
I'm getting ready to swap a L56 (ethanol compatible LS) 4L60E combo into my 69 Firebird. I'm wondering if the 5.3 manifolds clear. I've done a search and couldn't find anyone that has these stock manifolds installed. Anybody know?

If it is the high-rise truck manifold, then I suspect you might. One advantage you have is that the 69 doesn't have the engine set-back that later model Firebirds have. Otherwise there would be cowl interference for sure.
Is there an Firebird/Camaro specific site you could post the question on? Your feedback might be better.

Are you talking about the exhaust manifolds or the intake?

I don't think you will be able to use the manifolds without going to a rack and pinion steering. Also, you may some issues with the firewall. S&P make a nice set of mid length headers that fit well for $535 coated.

Hmmh, wonder if the 69' frame is the same as my 75 camaro. I did a conversion and the 5.3 truck manifolds cleared w/ the S&P motor mount plates. It was a tight fit but the exhaust shop managed to get the exhaust in. I'm thinking the camaro or firebird LS exhaust may clear better? The truck manifolds cleared for me but I didn't like how close they were to the floorboard on the passenger side.

No, the subframe was one of the big revisions when the 70 1/2 was finally released. It is very different. THere is not a lot of anything common with the then revolutionary changes from the 69 to the 70.

I am putting a 5.3 in a 69 bird. I have used adapter plates on the engine and the camaro frame mounts. The stock truck exhaust manifolds hit the steering box. I have bought a set of f-body manifolds for my build. There are lots of header options out there, but my build is low budget and I picked up the manifolds for $25.

I haven't got them installed yet. I just finished reinstalling my sub frame after sandblasting and have started cleaning up the engine and tranny for a little paint and installation. The o2 will definitely be in the way, but everything else looks like it will clear.
I have turned my efforts toward getting the firewall smoothed and refinished. I hope to get the firewall painted and the engine installed before Christmas.
