Default Mkiv

Ok, I know this has been somewhat discussed on here, but I was wondering if anybody has seen this done or has done it themselves. I am considering doing a ls1 swap into a NA MKIV. I realize that there are cheaper and easier ways, 240sx or rx-7, but would like to try and be different than everybody else. I know that supras are expensive even if they are not turbo, but am willing to pay if it can be done with a sane amount of money. Just looking to see if anybody else has actually gone and looked into this.

Nobody has ever thought of doing this? Anybody on here have a supra that they can take a picture of the transmission tunnel of?

There are a few people who have performed the swap on MKIII's. There are no documented MKIV swaps. According to Cedric (SilverOrchidSP60) from Supraforums, someone swapped an ls1 into a MKIV in Hawaii. I spoke with him and asked if he could take pictures, but there has been no success so far. Also a few years ago, there were some people swapping in a blown 2v 4.6 from a New-Edge Mustang, though they eventually scrapped the project and went with a Toyota V8 I believe. If you search, you will find some of the same information I posted on SF.

I believe I sent you a PM on sf. I am wolf13 on there. I am just trying to get as much information as I can get. I do not currently have a supra, and don't plan on getting one unless I am fairly certain I could pull this off, or find someone willing to pull it off.

I emailed Hinson, the guy that does the rx7 ls1 swaps, and he said he would be willing to do it, but not sure on the cost. He said it would most likely cost as much as a turn key rx-7, depending on a couple things. I appreciate your help.

Yeah I thought you were the same person. I figured I would address this thread, in case anyone on ls1tech is also interested. As far as Hinson, would his swap be a turn-key project, or a kit?

It would be a custom turn key. Im kind of tempted to let him do it, but would like the satisfaction of saying I did it myself. We will see how it goes. Im going to try and sell my volvo and just pick up a decent NA, so I can get a better idea of everything. I figure even if I don't do the swap, I cant loose out on that much money with the prices for the cars these days. I appreciate your response.

It might be a better idea if you could find a reputable shop in your area to perform the swap. Hinson doesn't have the best rep; do a search and you will find some pretty negative stuff. I used to frequent a few rx7/ lsx swap boards and there have been quite a few problems with Hinson in the past.

Yeah, I have noticed that people are not only unhappy with their welds on the rx7 subframes, but also with their lack of support. I'm just not sure who would be able to do this swap. Im sure someone can in CA, but I would like it to be 100% smog legal, and would rather not pay 20k for labor for all of that. We will see what happens, hopefully within a month I will sell the volvo and get a supra. Not sure if I should get a hard top or a targa, both have their pluses for me, and both have negatives.
