This pan uses a PF48 ac delco oil filter which when installed comes out flush with the bottom of the pan.

is there a similar thread, or pictures of dip stick tubes?
I'd like to use my GTO tube and stick but can't because I've changed to the H3 pan. If I use the supplied H3 tube, I have to punch out the plug in the block, but then it doesn't look like it will clear my GTO exhaust.

Looking for another alternative, or, has anyone made a tube out of copper or something?

Anyone know what the the thread size is for the oil pan sensor that is on the passener side? I don't need it and want to replace it with a bolt or plug.

Quick repsonse would be nice so I can pick it up later when i go into town.

I havent posted here in years, but getting back in the game... Im currently doing a 6.0 swap in my 79 Trans Am. I already have a complete engine with truck pan. My question is, which pan will I need to use without modding the frame? And my other question is, Hood Clearance? How much higher is an ls1 compared to a conventional SBC? I will be going carbed, and would like to keep the stock hood if possible..... Thanks for any replies...

I haven't dropped my engine in my 76 camaro yet, but was told the f-body LS1 pan cleared fine.

As far as hood clearance the LS1 intake is significantly lower than the old Holley intake and Carb that was on my car....it should clear ok. As a matter of fact I swapped the cowl hood that was on my car back to the stocker.

Here is a good forum for a lot of the info you'll be looking for...should apply to your car as well since it's the same platform as camaro.

anothe option for us camaro/ nova guys, i had a LQ4 pan out of a 04 silverado, but as you know they hang way too low , i know lots of guys have chopped them, which is what i did but instead of just chopping and plating it we cut it and took about 2.5" out and welded it back together....looks a little more OEM, chopping the pick up was pretty easy too...

Got any more pics? Especially one of the piece you cut out. I can't figure out how you got that much out of it.

heres some more details pics so you can get a idea...very easy to do just pay someone that can weld aluminum really good to do it....still cheaper than a conversion pan!

Ha, that's exactly how it came out when I did it last night.

I take it you did not weld that one? Getting a nice weld like that on a crappy cast pan is really hard.

Did you cut and he weld? or did he do the whole thing? How much did you pay if you don't mind.

i did one cut, he did the other and he welded it....he charged me $200,which i thought was a bit steep but he did a good job....

that pan is the LH8 pan....i belive, it hangs way low and doesnt fit novas/camaros, many others have bought them only to find out the hard way...do a search, oh and it definatly took alot more than 1/2 hr

The gm pan muscle car is not good for every swap.. it have 7.75in , and for a 69 camaro, we need 6 inch total....

Hey jasonova!!! i also have a 2007 truck pan whit my 6.0L, and it clear the cross member correctly, but have 8.25 in tall, and need max 6.25 inch.. i also plan to take off 2 or 2.25 inch. My friend do the job for about 80-90$ whit the pickup also cut and weld 2 inch shorter. The guys also weld inside de pan? My question is: it will have 2 litres of oil in less... for about 4.5 total...! it will be ok ? the motor will have enough oil to run and have a good oil pressure? In this oil pan, from a L76 truck, DOD, it have a pressure valve near the oil filter! i need to delete it or i can let it in place ?

marco, the one above i used off a 04 chevy truck/lq4 is a 6.5 qt pan+oil filter capacity...so it should still have plenty, in retro spect the camaro pans are only 5.5 qts stock....

My friend told me about 2 hours for do this... not 1/2..

I calculate the volume of 2inch less in oil, and it give me about 2 litres less... it's a lot of oil... i will have 4.5l instead of 6.5l + oil filter... may-be 5 litres total... I can also intal the oil cooler of the truck, that will add about 0.5 or 1l more, and it will help to refresh oil temp.. ?

Sorry for my english, i'm from Quebec, Canada.. i usualy speak french.

Here is my pan that i receive whit the 6.0L motor truck.... exactly the same... the 1st pan on the top... I really dont know why it have a plate whit some screw in the front... i take it off and have nothing under ???

if you really want more oil you could also plum in a tank to the cooler either before or after the cooler for a little more capacity...which i may do if oil levels are not acceptable...., pretty easy fix.

I thought that was the Hummer pan but I wasn't sure. Glad to know that won't fit because one of the two guys I know doing Camaro swaps bought that pan before I modified the truck pan.

The pans are not welded on the inside, just outside.

Ok... for the muscle car GM Pan... dont buy it for 69 camaro... yesterday, i place my 6.0L truck pan at the place it must go, when the motor will be installed, in reference to the bolt of the motor mount. My pan is very slim where it go on the cross member, and i only have 1/4 inch between it.... The rear sump of the pan clear all componant, it's perfect... but it have 8.25 inch tall, and it at only 3/4 inch of the ground, because my car is 2 inch dropped. It's why i must cut the pan of minimum 1 7/8 inch for clearance... the muscle car pan have 7.75in....1/2 inch more clearance than my stock 6.0L pan...

I did lot of mesurement yesterday, and if i cut the pan of 2 inch( i made mark inside the pan), i will lost 1.7 litres. I will cut it of 1 7/8 for have the drain plug = to the bottom of the PF48 oil filter, for a total of 6 3/8 in. My hoocker headers, installed on my motor, go down of 6 1/4 inch under the bottom ofthe block...+ gasket.. about 6 5/16.. same as the oil pan.

This truck was running 6.5 litres ( as i can see on the web) whit oil filter , pickup tubes, oil pump and oil cooler... I will have about 4-4.5 litres total whitout oil cooler, it's a very small quantity of oil... I will run synthetic oil for sure.!

Someone have suggestion for an extra oil tank? i have a cooler exit on my pan, that i can use for extra cooler or extra pan or both.
