So I am looking at the CTS-V dimensions and am a little confused...

I shows on the right that the height is 6 3/4" tall from rail to lowest point (front of sump). But if you look to the left of the pic it says 6 3/4" from bottom of front to lowest point. Which is accurate?

I'm swapping a 5.3l into a '79 Camaro.

I see three viable options, Fbody pan ($293), CTS-V ($243.68) or Modify Stock ($?).

Having a fabshop modify my pan may cost just as much as a new pan and it may also not work, so I'm X'ing that plan.

With the other two pans, can I modify my stock pick-up? Do I need a new dipstick and tube?

I bought my CTS-V pan, with windage tray, dipstick and tube for $210 from the dealer, who matched the prices at gmpartsdirect. The F-body pan is the safer bet, will fit your '79 Camaro perfectly and should be a very similar price.
I would not recommend trying to modify anything as any mistake will cost you an engine.

I have a 91 Camaro (third Gen) with a 408 stroked 6.0 truck engine. I need to change the pan. Wondering if anyone knows for sure if mast pan will clear k member. Also worried about clearance on whatever pan I go with due to the striker rods and crank. looking at stock ls1 pan as well. I know it will fit just think it will give me issues with rod clearance.

ANy suggestions would be great

If you are using the stock K-member you will probably need to notch the K-member no matter what pan you use. I've seen a few people get away with not doing it but the clearance was very close. I would notch it anyway even if it cleared just for piece of mind. I have a 408 stroker in my thirdgen and I'm using the stock f-body pan, no rod clearance issues. My machine shop did relocate the pickup more toward the rear of the pan to prevent oil starvation during accelleration. Hopefully that helps.

On the first page, the measurements for the F-body pan (5.5") is NOT to the deepest portion where the drain plug is. Can anyone tell me the measurement at that point?
I'd think this would be very important for determining ground clearance.

At first glance, the CTS-V pan appears to be 1.75" deeper, but I bet the difference ends up being only about 3/4".

Important safety tip:
IF you use slightly longer rod bolts with the "Canton 13-270A - GM LS1 5 1/4” DEEP AL F-BODY RACE BAFFLED PAN" ----in this case, A1 rod bolts--you WILL NOT have clearance for the bolts. #$%^&*(--why would they not know this ?

Other than reading this entire thread (<grin>), say exactly what year and car you have as that determines where the steering linkage is which then determines which pan fits.

OK, I have read all 25 pages of this thread. Seems none of the GM pans work for a first gen Camaro (1969), correct? I have factory steering but have lowered my car 2" with the Hotchkis TVS.

My current SBC pan has 4 1/8" ground clearance and seems to be fine for clearance. The sump of the SBC pan is ~ 7.5" deep. Is it true (as stated in an earlier post in this thread) that the LS pan rail is 2" lower than on an SBC? If so, the GM Musclecar pan is too low for me.

Are my only options the Holley or Autocraft pan?

That's been my understanding; Holley or Autokraft. Or, modify the factory pan by raising the bottom of the sump to increase clearance. My only concern is the reduced oil capacity. Almost a quart, I believe.

I'm leaning towards modifying mine. Way cheaper, almost free labor for me.

FWIW - I just used a stock Corvette 2-piece Batwing pan in my 2nd Gen TA (1981). It fit fine without any issues besides the oil drain plug. The stock location is too close to the frame (red arrow) to get oil out without making a big mess. So, I tapped a new location (yellow arrow) and haven't looked back .The car is lowered and used in road racing as well. The trans has been replaced with a T56 since this pic was taken. Nothing hits the frame, everything clears. No issues at all. I positioned the engine by connecting it the TH350, which was mounted in the stock location, centering it on the frame, and welding the lower mounts into place.

I guess there wouldn't be room for a rack between the pan and frame, would there? Do you have an estimate what the clearance is? I think I still have room to push the motor back a bit to gain a little more room.

I have a 1st gen but I bet there isn't much difference dimensionally to a 2nd gen.

It looks like about half an inch between the bolt head for the stock drain plug and the frame.
