Default 1980 Jeep CJ5....

Hey guys. I'm about to buy an '80 Jeep CJ5 this weekend with a decent 4 banger, and the worst transmission known to man. The only good thing about this drivetrain, is the fact that the bell housing accepts an SBC bolt pattern.

So, thus it begins. I still have yet to think of a project name, so if any of you come up with a good one, post it up!

Here are a few pics of the Jeep

No engine pics yet, they'll come later as I start tearing into it.

Anyway, here's the rundown. My build sheet is posted on Google if you care to gander at it. Easiest way to use this is to right click and open in a new window for each of the links.

Let me know what you think!!!

I noticed you're wanting a 14 bolt, too bad you're in VA, as I have a 14 bolt with 4.56's for sale...

EDIT: I'm also not sure that your choice of a radiator will work properly for an LS1. There needs to be a steam vent if I remember right....

Well the 1 tons will come sometime after June. I'm going to re-enlist and transfer to San Diego. Plenty of $$ to throw around on a 4 link / 1 ton swap.

And I just got off the phone with Radiator Barn after reading your post... They said the actual radiator would work fine, but they weren't sure if it would get in the way of the motor since it's so much bigger than a stock one.

Time to make some more phone calls I guess! Thanks for the tip.

Edit: Well guess who makes a radiator for me?! Advanced Adapters of course.

Now I just need to get a line on some heater hoses

Found the heater hoses. Called AA and they gave me the number to Goodyear, who gave me the part numbers. Check the build sheet for links.

On another note, I went to the bank today to get my check for the Jeep and mods and they said it wasn't ready yet. :bullshit:

Cool, I wonder if I could cross reference the numbers at my local parts place...

Bought the Jeep today! I'm going to keep it at the guy's shop, since he's a metal fabricator by profession. I'm going to give him a little extra cash and have him help me with the engine mounts. He says he'll help out with the rest of the swap for a little bit of cash, so we shook hands.

Now.... I need to find out if I can put a mechanical fan clutch on the water pump. I really don't like the way an electric fan pushes the air across the engine. I have yet to find one that pushes as many CFM as a stock type mechanical fan.

Anybody have a clue?

I think all of the truck engines use clutch fans.

If you go electric, the Lincoln Mark VIII fan flows 4000cfm--a lot of hot rodders run 'em.

No ****! 4500 CFMs is a butt load! I think I'll buy one and see how it works. If it can't keep it cool, I'll do more research about a fan clutch operated one.
