Duramax in an F-Body

I keep hearing all this about the weight... last I checked an iron BBC wasn't light, and I've seen several of those.
It would likely require strut tower, cowl, and hood work to fit. Doable, but likely wouldn't be pretty.
A 3rd Gen would probably be a lot easier task, with their tank sized engine bays and no cowl-over-motor design.

All anyone needs to do is measure the width of this engine at the exhaust manifolds/heads. This will dissuade the non-fabricator from attempting this swap in an F-Body.
Here is a pic of the Allison trans next to a 700R4 (4L60) type trans....It's very big. Extension trans tunnel modifications. It also weighs 330 lbs...dry.
The financially shy....should not apply...
This motor is huge!
You need to remember that this is a 4 valve per cylinder head also.
Note the oil filter location.

if only i had just a motor and transmission laying around i think i could do it. can you not turn it into a dry sump? that would make it able to be lower and no oil filter issue - also clear the rack???? i hink it can fit under a stock hood. just take a lil cash for the oiling system

WOW! I never knew you could shoehorn a Cummins diesel into a Vette, even under the stock hood
Someone did a good job of overlaying the sound clip onto the video !!!

Haha Yeah my duramax definately hauls ***. Has an HPP stage 3, ppe boost valve, open intake, and straight pipe exhaust. been hauling 12k+ just about everyday for the past 35k miles with tune. Engine was diagnosed with a blown headgasket 20k miles ago engine still runs PERFECT added compression just forces a quart of coolant out every tank or so. To me, thats almost nothing. 15mpg towing, 17-18 unloaded but this is in a crew cab 4x4, with 9" Knapheide utility body. I'm going to dyno it and run it at the track when i take my 68 up.
FYI 01 Duramaxes are known for blowing the stock head gaskets, the cost? $4500 thats if the heads dont need to be milled.... and they cant be or so a GM dealer will tell you and they are another $1500 Not cheap at all. Plus all LB7 (first gen) Duramaxes had inferior injectors. GM issued a 200k mile warranty on them and most have been replaced.
I Highly doubt this would fit in an Fbody withough modifying the windsheild or raising the body. These engines are massive.

I dont think the weight would be as much of and issue as the dimensions. I just took a pontiac 400 out of my 68 and they are almost 800lbs. I'd imagine a BBC would be around 750 or so and a supercharger and all to it would it put it over 800. If you used the duramax radiator that would create and issue as well. The Duramax cooling system holds something like 12 gallons of coolant. Also the Allison transmission cooler is massive and has 1/2 steel lines running to it.

I really want to tell you to just put an 8-71 blown and stroked big block chevy in it for the big torque you want.
But you asked us not to do that so I won't.
The diesel idea is cool because it's wierd, you just may have to find a smaller diesel. If money is no object, why not check out the mercedes diesels?
