Abbott Enterprises (www.abbott-tech.com) sells a box that you can input the VSS signal and it has port to output a speedo cable drive. It uses dip switches inside so you can calibrate for gear changes and tire changes (it will make the speedo correct but not the processor). It has a small electric motor that spins the cable drive. It makes no noise I can hear. The down side is that you have to mount the box inside as it is not waterproof. Cost for the thing is around $300. The orginal application is for hour meters on modern trucks and fleet vehicles but they also know about it's use for fuel injection retrofits.

I bought the deal from street & performance and now they missed the speedometer reading by at least 10 mph. I know they would probably send me a different gear if i would pull the crossmember off and send them the gears back. I am going to change the rear end gear a little later and am going to go to a little taller rear tire. I bought a Cable-x box but haven't put it in yet. Cheaper and you can recalibrate your speedometer after any changes. To me it is the only way to go. John B has one maybe he will chime in his thoughts. Just the price of learning.

Depends on what you have and what you want..
For the cable X its nice to be able easily recalibrate if you are likely to change, for instance, gears.
Some dont like the fact that they have to deal with another box to hide.
Others "feel" the potential for failure, mechanical or electronic, is increased with a cable X
( I say "feel" because I havent seen any evidence that there are reliability issues and as such this claim is anecdotal).
For me, I had to change the tailshaft anyway because the 4L65E I purchased wouldnt work with the original tailshaft, so I decided to go with the Hybrid speed sensor/mechanical speedo drive solution.

I have the cable x box and bought it from ebay less than 300 it works great and it let me keep my factory speedo. It came with all the instructions also and any questions were answered. I think that abbot sells them on ebay.
