reset odometer?
i am doing an lsx swap into an 89 mustang and i plan on using the stock cluster from a camaro. does anyone know if there is a way to reset to odometer back to 00000?

If I recall correctly this has to be done by someone with access to a TechII. You'll probably be limited to dealerships. If they would do it, I'm sure it would be rather expensive.

You should be able to set the odometer to any mileage you want. Only dealerships have the computer to do it though. Person at work said he was havin problems with his oil pressure gauge in his S-10. Took it to a Chevy dealer to work on it. They put a new cluster in it, he got it back and it had 10,000 more miles on it. Took it back and they had the correct mileage on it and the gauge cluster back in it in 30 minutes. So I'm sure if you can find someone to do it, it can be changed to 0.

As was stated, keep in mind that this could be potentially illegal. Most cars are mileage exempt due to age (anything older than 10 years), although you could be held liable for fraud if you tried to pass the car off as a lower mileage. If I were to use the F-body gauge cluster in my Swap I would more than likely reset the odometer as well. The car will be well over 75% new, and the engine / trans will have been gone through. In my eyes it's "new." If I were to use aftermarket Autometer gauges they would start off at 0 as well. Realistically, what's the difference?

For the most part, you are just required to place an odometer reset label in the door jam or glove box that shows the date and the actual mileage. Like bczee said, verify with your local DMV
A picture of the dash with the actual miles and date wouldn't hurt either.
It will show up eventually in a carfax report if you ever take it in for service, collision, sell it. etc
It becomes illegal if you try to misrepresent the vehicle as having less miles than actual.

an odometer can be reset....but I dont know ANY dealers who can do it. They all have to have incredible amounts of proof of actual mileage....almost a damn DNA test to prove its your car. Then they have to mail it to GM itself to get it done. I know a guy who is the service manager for a local dealership. He siaid its impossible to reset a used one at a dealer. Only new ones can be ONE time programmed from the factory. As in the case of a warranty repair or something on a cluster.
