Any of you carbed LSx guys!
Im posting this for a friend. He is using the Edelbrock Victor Jr carb setup on his '82 S10 project (Link here:https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-swaps/821154-pics-my-friend-s-82-ls10.html ). The ignition/controller box comes with some different 'chips' to change the timing curve, but they dont allow for very much adjustment. I have noticed that there is some sort of service port on the box, like maybe for a serial/USB cable to hook up a laptop and make more pinpoint adjustments. Is anyone on here using this setup and cant tell me if you have messed with one?

you can not program the edelbrock boxes, yes there is a serial data port on the side but it does nothing,, you are stuck running 36* timing wot with any of the edelbrock chips
most people start with the edelbrock box and get there project running then realize they cant control the timing(the edelbrock chips all have 36* timing wot,, and most lsx engines only need/like 26-29*) and switch to the msd 6010 box that you can program your own timing curve and has a nitrous retard and hi and low rev limiters and vaccum advance programmable

Just to clarify and maybe help you. The msd box with the eldelbrock setup is different from the msd6010 box. Yes they are the same in appearance but the msd 6010 has alot more capabilities like described in an earlier post.

Does the 6010 box come with the harness to plug in the coils, map, cam, and crank sensors? I seen a harness that was 184 bux extra just wondering if it came with the harness or is it seperate?

I think the other harness allows you to mount the box right on the intake manifold.

the edelbrock and msd pills are the same. msd makes the edelbrock box.
here is a chart i received strait from msd. i run a #6 pill. most agressive timing.
if you want lowering timing, use the #1. it has 32 total timing according to msd.
i tried playing with an msd 7550 handheld and lowering timing didnt pick up any power or track times.
yes ls1's like lower timing, but thats because of the TB and intake setup, not to mention the fuel is sprayed into the port.
with a carb the fuel is drawn in, so the old school timing is still acceptable, IMO.

I believe the Edelbrock and MSD boxes have different timing curves. They are also made to different specs, according to MSD
