Default What did you pay for a complete 5.3?

I am seriously thinking about finding a stock 5.3/auto and replacing the 454/th350 with it, drive it, enjoy until a modded 6.0 lq4 can go in.

I need to know what is a reasonable price to pay, and if I can get the auto out of the truck, is it a quality od unit? What are they, 4l65e?

I am using car-part.com, but they seem to only sell long blocks only without accessories, wiring, pcm, trannys, or brackets

oh, these will be going in my 71 nova w/fuel cell and electric fuel pump.

I paid $350 also but got the computer, starter and alternator with it. I have about $200 in a NEW LS2 water pump (more clearance) and Fbody PS pump and brackets and alt bracket. (The motor is a 2001)

Look in the classifieds for a tranny, you can find a really nice 4L60 for $300-350.

Don't be afraid of a higher mileage engine either.

I stupidly bought a 2002 truck 4L60 for $500 but it did come with a convertor.

If you're near central IL, I can probably get you one for the same price. I was going to buy another one for a total of $600 for both will all the trimmings but my buyer backed out.

Hey, guys, speaking of trannies with the 5.3 what's the common trans used for the swap? I'm swapping into a '93 Mustang and want to do what I can to maximize fuel economy and keep cost down.

To the OP, I've found a few complete engines around the $300 range in my area.

I got a 91 camaro T5 world class (I know I know its not strong) for $300, but I intend on putting it in a really light car so I don't think it'll be an issue.

Sorry I sorta derailed the thread. I paid $292 shipped for my 5.3 but it didn't come with many accessories- has water pump and alternator bracket, stock crank pulley, and had coils that were half good. I have a spare pcm and harness so I didn't get it with it. I've been looking around for 4L60Es.

I got a long block from intake to oil pan. All sensors, fuel rail and flex plate. Paid $200 for it. Wish I did have the harness and trans. But for $200, I can't really complain.

OOh, also got the truck waterpump, and accessory brakets. No P/S pump, A/C pump, or alternator.

locally complete 5.3s with all access and PCM is $600-$800 depending on mileage, includes the manifolds as well....

6.0/A4 combos are $1500

Trying to decide which route I am going in my 71 P/U.

I just agreed to buy an '05 5.3/aod with harness, computer and anything else off of the truck to make it functional in my swap, for $1000. Only thing is, I have to pull it all myself. The truck has 67k on it.

That was loaded and they sent me a few other little things I asked for too.
