Thinking of buying a C5 Z06

Thinking of buying a C5 Z06
Well after much thinking I'm starting to lean toward selling my 00 Z28 and buying a LS1 Z06. I'm almost 28 and I've had my Z for over 6 years now. I had my daughter 3 months after buying it and didn't get to mod it like I had planned. I just started to do some stuff to it, SLP catback, SS hood, Z06 rims and such. A few months ago I had a deer T-bone me and crack the drivers door pretty good and put a huge dent in the rear quarter. Then a week later I hit a tree with the other rear quarter as I tried to back around a tree in my driveway while half asleep at 5am. Now as of a month ago I am single again. I also have to do some exhaust work to pass emissions over the winter. At this point the car needs a bit of body work along with a complete paint job. I was getting quotes and looking at parts and realized that it would be almost 10K to get my car back to square one! Then I was planning on doing a cam along with a few other mods over the winter. I then started looking at vettes and there are several LS1 vettes with about 25,000 miles going for like 27-33k. So I think I'm going to take the money i was going to use on the camaro and put it towards a Z06. Now my question is how much power can the rear end and tranny take? I know the rear end in the f-bodies SUCK, is the vette any better. Also I have had several offers in the 6k range for my car as it is. How far can 6k get me in mods to the Z06? Thanks for any input.

NCS im also interested in making the switch, and im also interested in the question you asked about the rears. Now im under the impression that the vettes rear can take "some" abuse, aslong as you avoid wheel hop at all costs. I think someone here makes some sort of anti wheel hop bars or something, im not 100% sure, however.

If it was me I would pass on the H/C etc package and drop $6K into a blower and maybe a cam to go with it. I didn't look too much into it but I believe I seen a Vendor on CF selling SC kits for $4500. IMO that would be the better bang for the buck. You could easily be in the 500 range.
As for guessing power, I would say with a nice H/C, headers and tune mid 400's is easy and a more aggressive setup you could be close to 500. My 700+hp Vette has a stock rear besides a diff brace and upgraded axles. But as mentioned wheel hop will break things fast. I broke the main shaft in my tranny with almost no hop at all.

with heads, cam, headers, and intake, i would hope for a better number than 430rwhp. I would guess 500ish rwhp, conservativly for a c5 Z06

dont get caught up in dyno numbers. if he wanted 500 rwhp, it wouldnt be a joy to drive all the time.
I had heads and cam with a LS6 intake on mine and made 411 rwhp with 4.10 gears on a dyno jet.
411rwhp on a mustang dyno with 3.42 gears.
If you want a good runniing recipe, get AFR205's with a FAST intake and 231/237 cam. You will feel the difference and be totaly streetable

i've got a friend that Might be selling his Speedway Z06.
Besides that, you could go full exhaust, and CAM only and make 430rwhp and 400ft-lbs. Get a GOOD clutch....and a DTE brace, and output shaft. All those things, will make for a GREAT driving car,..that may very well be a dream come true. I loved driving my car when it made 450rwhp. It was wicked and wild. Hardly had ANYTHING that gave it trouble on the highway.....and if it did,...i'd spray an easy 100-150 WEt shot of spray.
9-10 second combo. 190+mph. AC. Leather. vette gets em wet.
