Default What LS1 C5 is best?

Looking to buy first vette.
Is they a certain year LS1 C5 that is preferred as far as cost in modding, pcm problems, available aftermarket parts, etc. Asking because for the 93-97 LT1 Z28/TA it is the 95 model.

To some the 01+s are "better" but outside of the steering column lock, and some of the oil consumption probs of the inital LS1s, to me there's nothing wrong w/ a 97-98. But if you've got the $$ personally, i'd spring for a used Z06. Cause i love the looks, and overall performance of 'em. But basically, the any 97-04 vette you can get you wont be dissappointed.

Personally I wouldnt consider anything older than '99 because of the pcm differences.

Turn off the caps lock.

01 and up and unless you your looking for a vert I'd go 02 ZO6. Tub it and put on 18" x 335's in the rear as well as a set of the 04 shocks. add 3:73 rear end to that M12 tranny (is equal to a 4:10 (M-6)in the first three gears). Special ground cam with all the bolt ons and your at 400 rwhp. Now you have an 11 sec car that you can drive everyday on pump gas. I love this stuff.......

Just for being "cheap" is the only reason i'd consider a 97-00, but you do gotta point 66. Some people dont wanna have to mess w/ that ****. But, like i said if it was me, i'd pick up a used Z06 and mod that beast out. But thats just me. Do what you want. No matter what, you've still gotta vette...

Like the others said, stay w/ the 2001 and up models unless they are out of your price range. These have the #241 cast heads, LS6 intake, and more options that weren't available in previous models. But hell, I would still take a '97 vette over a 2002 F-body w/ same miles and price!

I agree. LS6 intakes are coming down in price especially when the FAST arrives. I thought 99 and 00 did have center bolt valve covers. Some 01s even Non Z06s have oil burning problems.

On a second note, be very careful of those low mileage 6-speed vettes/f-bodies. A lot of people tend to unplug just one connector on the side of the transmission (its right by the one used w/ the CAGS ELEM.) to stop the odometer. On auto's its not a problem because the transmission won't work if that sensor is unpluged.Buy from an honest person thats willing to state and sign off on the true mileage!
