Try to find some of RobZ's posts, he is one of the fastest if not the fastest N/A stock bottom end C5s.

It can be done, but not easy. With good air no problem with a nasty heads/cam, ported fast and stock gears. Fastest bolt on C5 is 10.89 @ 126, but in great -DA air. Great air is everything. Where I live we don't have it.

Exactly! It can be done, but not easy. Air and track prep are everything. A few years ago when I was still running the 346, I ran a best of 10.69@126 in my A4 C5 coupe.

I agree where you live that air quality makes it difficult, but at this day and age of LSx performance it's certainly not impossible or even hard to do for that matter. I cant remember how many 10 second NA cars we have out there, let alone tons of other shops as well, it's common place now IMO.

Easier with a auto. The rear end is a toss up, some hold some don't. You will for sure want to upgrade the half shafts to a DTE set up. That is what I have in mine. Build the rear when you have to.

I have a fairly aggressive Heads and cam setup and aftermarket drivetrain and an aggressive clutch...even the aftermarket drivetrain stuff breaks...save yourself a headache and do an auto....FWIW the FRC's only came in 6sp so you'll have to do a coupe or do an auto coversion if you choose to go that route

Heavy duty half shafts and maybe a DTE brace. The brace connects from the trans to the rear end to strengthen it. I have this set up and it works great.

Good info. As far as the coupe goes.. Is it true that the coupe is lighter than the frc and z06? How difficult would it be to swap from t56 to a4?

No, the FRC and Z06 are lighter than the coupe. The auto conversion is something I would want a good shop to do.

what do you guys think about an l92 setup... would it be easier to get in the 10's with a good set of l92's and a fast lsxr intake and one of our sponsors? or maybe a custom spec cam.

I would personally do the brace before the half shafts, simply because if you break a half shaft thats generally all that breaks and you can then replace it, but if you were in need of the brace you will have a broken trans and diff to replace.

HD Axles –

These HD axles were developed with serious hp in mind! These axles Include larger diameter 300M axle bars (increased from 1.125" to 1.375"), larger 33 spline outer CV (increased from 30 spline), and hubs (with bearing) to accommodate the larger outer spline. This kit also uses our 108mm Porsche-style inner CV joints with our chromoly bolt-on inner flanges. In order to achieve optimum strength, we have increased the diameter of the seal surface on the bolt-on inner flanges and include new axle seals to accommodate them. Rated to 1000HP with a 1-year warranty. Also available are the new direct replacement 300M differential spline output shafts, also with a 1-year warranty.

IMO and experience L92 is definitely... not the budgeted and smart way to go on your goal.
