F-body to C5 Z06 guys need some input.
I have an offer on my TA and found a 02 Z06 with around 50k on it bone stock. So if everything works out I could have the Vette for a few thousand. The only thing bothers me is I will not be able mod the Vette for along time due to a new house and another little one on the way. So have any you with 400+ RWHP F-bodys moved to bone stock C5 Z06 and were you happy with the switch?
I have put alot of time into my TA and with time I would do the same with the Vette (just don't know when I would have the extra cash), I just love the stress release of banging gears in my TA.
I have never driven a Z06 just a regular Vette so if the Z06 pulls hard then I would be happy for while.
Thanks for any input. I don't want to drive somebodys hard as hell then say I don't want it.

I say its not a bad move. You just have to really be in the Corvette mood because youre going to miss your TA. I'm pretty confident that you should walk a stock Z06, but Z06 are lighter and can be made faster with less mods(like exhaust tune CAI should put you really close to 375-390rwhp..) cause of weight and gearing.
Good luck, I think about this sometime too, but I'm way too much involve emotionally with my SS to do a move right now hahahah

I traded my very modified 02 SS for a bone stock 03 Z06 over a year ago, I still miss my SS. The z06 is far superior in cornering and lighter, but the mods on the SS would have let it hang in a straight line. I like my Z06, and my wife likes it much better than my SS, says it looks better, but I was emotionally tied to the SS; I feel like a part of me is missing, and I can understand not being able to do anyting to it for a while, I'm still trying to overcome the debt I racked up modding the SS so no mods for a while for me. I found an auto 01 Z28 that I picked up cheap, and I drive that almost everyday now and keep the Z06 in the garage to keep it in good condition, and low mileage. Eventually I'd like to mod the Z06, but I have to wait and see how it goes, i have a couple of other projects on the burners as well.

First off, you need to drive the z06
I sold my 500hp 6speed 2000 SS for full exhaust 03 z06 and I much prefer driving the z06.
Just like farmdawg said, I was emotionally tied to my camaro as well. I have had that Camaro for years and me and my friends put so much work and time into that car...we even lost some girlfriends because of the car. After the car being gone for a while and having the z06, I havent looked back. Yea my z06 is slower than my SS was but its a totally different experience driving the z06.

I still would love to have a f-body but I love the vette. Tho if I had a choice between the two, the vette would easily get the nod.
On et streets and a cai, stock tune my car ran a 11.9.
I did race my buddy with his 420+rwhp f-body and after 100 started to pull ahead of him. My car dynoed 342rwhp, it did get over 350rwhp but the circuit breaker popped and lost the dyno run.
I say go for it and have fun!
btw a c5Z is a completely different beast compared to the stock C5.

I went from a 427RWHP T/A to a stock C5Z and didn't regret it at all. As mentioned the Z06 is lighter and geared better which makes up for a lot of the power difference. It handles so much better than the f-bod that it's just plain ridiculous not to mention it looks alot better IMO. As for modding the only pieces you really pay the vette tax on are headers, exhaust, CAI, and appearance mods. Most of your power mods (heads, cam, FAST, UD pulley, tuning software, etc) is all the same price as it is for the f-bods. In fact I bought some used headers, a cheap ORX, and kept the stock Ti mufflers and had full exhaust for about $500. The Ti mufflers flow VERY well compared with aftermarket setups that cost $600+. The key is to do the work yourself and it's really not much more money to mod these than the F-bod. Of course it's more work to do a clutch swap plus breaking something in the rear can be damn expensive but that's about it.

I made the switch from a 435 hp SS to a stock c5. I wish I still had my SS but Its totaled maybe thats why. I really havent got to enjoy the vette yet do to bad whether so far maybe my mind will change if I get to drive it more. Maybe if I had a c6 Zo6 my mind would change deffintly. And yes the vette out handles and is a much better ride than the fbody hands down I just have a soft spot for fbodys.

My Z-28 flung a motor. I'm going to fix it, sell it then buy the Corvette I have wanted since I was 4. I dont plan on looking back, besides in the rear view mirror when I race F-bodies.

Ive owned f bodies for years, I have a turbocharged 99Z, a lightly modded 00 Ws6 and a 00 C5 coupe. Stock for stock the coupe rode alot better than the f bodies, in addition, it attracts alot more attention than the f bodies did especially if you are a young corvette owner. Plus Everyone and their neighbor has a f body around here in the bay area along with the basic upgrades on intake and exhaust maybe gearing mods. The z28 is fast and fun but too common. I prefered my ws6 more at first because i was in love with it and there are less around, but after giving the c5 more seat time, and is was less powerful i still fell in love with it, and it handled aloooot better at freeway speeds and turns. Over the ast mnths the vette has exhaust, headers, heads and cam, I love the car. Btw i sold the ws6 mnth ago, and dont really miss it.

This thread makes me sad. I absolutely love my 02' SS but I realize Corvettes are the superior car. I just put over 18k in mods on my SS and Im afraid that someday soon i'll just hop into a vette. The thought of pissing all that money down the drain is what makes me sad lol.

OP.. I miss my 99 Z28 and it just had some aftermarket wheels and suspension mods. The cars are completely different though. When I flew out to get mine and took it for a test drive (first time I ever drove a C5 Z06) , I just could not believe how much of a beast it was in stock trim. For sure it was not the fastest thing on the road or the quickest thing I have ever driven, but the car is just an animal.
Honestly, I'd be happy driving either car, but the Z06 pays for itself over and over again with the smiles it puts on my face.
