Built 2003 C5ZO6 at a Acura Dealer !
Greetings all,
I've been looking at C5ZO6's and 2005 to 2007 C6 manual Vettes lately.
From Autotrader I found a 2003 C5Z. Went for a look and test drive.
This car has headers, exhaust, Wieland Lingenfelter intake manifold, carbon fiber cold air intake, AFR heads, slightly lowered, shortshift, hurst shiftknob and who knows what else.
I also was able to see where it had been painted around the passenger side window rubber seal... evidence of tape removal.
The car had tons of power and was a blast to drive !
Here's the ad on autotrader.

I asked the dealer where this C5Z came from.
They also told me it was a dealer trade. hmmmmmm !?

I also asked the dealer about the emissions, they told me new cats were installed in order to pass California emissions.
My thoughts about the car:
This C5Z has about 10K worth of parts.
I do like the car but I will most likely move on and look for something unmolested.
I will say it's clean and fast as hell, it's just the questionable history of this car and the long term potential headaches.
Why did I post this ? Just to see what you guys think. Opinions are welcome too.

price is a few thousand too high. I would say around 25-25k for the car. I would say if you can get them down a few grand or so the car would be totally worth it. You are going to mod the car anyways, so you might as well pickup a nicely modded one to start with.

I realize things can go wrong if head/cam modifications are not done correctly. I asked the dealer for receipts or contacts, they didn't have either.
In the Autotrader pictures, there are no engine photos.
I doubt the dealer would go down to 22-24K. I would be curious no see how long and how much they sell that Vette for.

I'd explain to them,
That the car cannot be smogged
Thus you'll offer them 20k and then work from there (22k max)
Tell them you want it for a track only car, So you don't need smog.
It's a *low mile* car (Which is Bitchin)
The mods done to the car, Are worth zero $ to them,
Because it can't be smogged, and Dealers pay nothing for mods on a trade in,
And to return the car to stock will cost too much money
So they are stuck !

Yea sold it last year. Bought it in 07 with 6200 miles on it and sold it with 9800 miles on it. Had a MS4 cam and full bolt-ons, but put it back to stock before I sold it. Car was a beast and miss it. Sold it to save up for a C6Z.
btw here is a kbb rating for that car. Mind you this is trade in value

Car Fax shows that it did pass smog plus they stated they could show me the paperwork.
They gave me the story about not being able to sell a non street legal car. I think they have a very friendly smog test guy.
The car has long or short tube headers, couldn't tell which one. It does have all the emission equipment on it.
Yes returning the car to stock would cost a boat load of money.
They bought the car from an auction so they are probably trying to double thier money on this car. The sales manager didn't really seem like he wanted to bend to much on the price.

I can see why you miss your C5Z, once you get your C6Z it might help you to not miss your C5Z so much.
Wow those kbb C5Z's trade in values are holding up extremely well.
Edit: Wow you had some low mileage on that C5Z !
The other cars in your sig sound nice too.

And I've owned a BB69 vette (2) Cuda's one had a 440ci in it
I'm going to do a LS7 motor in it and keep in lieu of buying a C6 Z06
I like the Tight Hard top coupe look of the C5 rather than that glass bubble on the back of the C6

Yeah, It's a really nice car, In fact it's the best car I've ever owned,

If you're saying that you're going to install an LS7 into your C5Z that would be a fun car to drive ?
I myself, I like all the Vettes for different reasons. If I don't end up with a
C5Z, I will get a C6 manual and eventually install some L92/LS3 heads, a cam and supporting mods.
I've enjoyed driving both the C5 and C6 Vettes because the ride and handling are so much better than any 4th F-bodie I've driven ( including mine ) and I have a lot of upgrades to my suspension. I could keep pouring money into my current F-body and it will never compare to a vette. No offence to F-body owners.
