Default 04 Z06 exhaust desecration ...

1st off. I just joined having up'd from a 96 vette to a 04 zo6 and dammit i love it.

now to the title subject.
have you ever just wondered
"what if i just -----------<insert bad idea here>------------"
well i was going to go with custom titanium straight pipes so my factory titanium awesomness wasnt needed anymore.

SO.

I grabbed my drill and a 2 1/8 hole saw and got stupid.

yes its not a smart thing. yes someone else would have loved my stock exhaust. yes its extremely ghetto.. but it sounds freakin sick.

i cut 2 holes in the bottom of each muffler (out of sight)
holly bejezus batman... nice and rumbly and racy raspy at wot

sounds better in person but here is my cell phones take on it
http://youtu.be/LYSDWez54vM

anyone in san antonio tx feel free to contact me about meets or parts/tires.. ya know,, car stuff..

Nah only had the car a week. Long tubes are in the future.
I gotta drop my performance money on tires because the dealer backed out on buying me newer ones after i pointed out the steel belts were showing on the fronts..

And i agree it sounds bad@idle on the video.. The camera picks up some pingy loose bolt sound that isn't there to the human ear..

On a side note I am taking the money I saved by not buying a cat back exhaust and putting that towards buying a tig welder capable of titanium so i can do real exhaust tuning and enlarge the final exhaust tubes to match the tips better.. I shortened/re baffled my motorcycle exhaust and it performed & sounded amazing..

Ive been.reading my *** off on this site and found good info.

Im doin long tubes, vararam, fast intake and lowering on stock bolts.
If im missing anything in that list let me know..

I traded my stock titanium for some Corsa pace cars. They have value, but I'm guessing you're impatient with your new ride

Correct. Impatient.. Also curiosity killed the cat... Just had to know.

Anyone know if the ls2 responds well to gutting the cats. Not worried about emissions where i live

Where it's located, "gutting" isn't an option. You'll have to cut them out and weld a straight pipe back in. Cats can usually usually sell $100 each btw.

JP.. hahah.. derp... i dont have an 05 gto.... ls6 duh. thanks for the correction. i'll do 100 hail chevy's and pray to the car gods for forgiveness. i need to spend some time under the hood.

pontiac. your probably right. once the headers hit its gonna be a noise cannon. i think it might be a disgusting sound too. but innovation will provail.
.
tax season will bring headers and a tig welder. gonna do a full titanium exhaust. less headers. replace cats with titanium tubes. and hand made custom mufflers.
maybe we can all get a piece of that action.
we made some custom mufflers for my 5.0 ranger and they sound every bit as good as any flowmaster or magnaflow.. i would compare to a higher quality brand. but on the ford engines i've seen they tend to stick to the basics.

I can't tell if you're cheap, inexperienced or just like to tinker to keep yourself occupied.

I'll recommend the XS power headers in your case, they can be had for around $700, they're cheap (in comparison) and works, granted 1 7/8" would by my 1st choice, 1 3/4" is also proven.

that looks awesome. i think i'm going for the ar headers. for no other reason than i was told the installation was easier. i am just a bored tinkerer who put all his money into buying the car. not really cheap. not inexperienced in car performance (first c5 though) been around the block many times in many rides, but not an expert by any means.. i'll agree whole heartedly that hole sawing my exhaust warrents those concerns.. foolish for sure haha..

FYI...Huron markets these as 1 & 3/4 headers but the OD on mine was 1.90"
soooo I'm guessing more like 1.75 ID...

If you only knew what you were talking about.... Yes you can unbolt the stock LS2 cats and gut them very easily. Then they just bolt back in. I have done on my old 07 C6 and just did it on my 2011 GS. So yes you can do it and YES its very easy. Took me an hour and a half from start to finish. They unbolt from the manafolds and the midpipe quite simply.
