Default New 07 z06 owner

Hey guys, this friday i bought a 2007 z06. black on black and from what i can tell its completly stock except for a VR intake. ill post up some more pics soon. For now im going to leave the car alone, (i have a turbo build under way in my camaro) But wanted some tips for some basic boltons to add some power. Is the Vr intake any good? What other little things should i be looking to do? Thought about a full exhaust and possibly throwing on cutouts since i already have two just sitting in garage. From what ive heard the American racing headers and a billy boat cat back are a pretty powerful setup?

Congrats on the new beautiful Vette

Yes, the Vararam Intake is good, one of the best out there for these cars. You should go with True Duals along with some American Racing Headers. The car will sound good

Any HP goals in mind?

What is your ultimate goal for the car? If I were you I'd throw the headers on it and see how you like the way it sounds before deciding to go with a aftermarket exhaust. The stock one sounds great but if you're into loud and obnoxious B&B and Corsa are what you need to look at.

Also, im kind of newbie with the ls7s... I keep hearing that ls7s do not like boost very much, I just wanted to see what kind of power the ls7s can make safely? A buddy of mine has an 08 z06 and his is 1500hp twin turbo. I dont know if ill ever take it that far but id love a nice 1000hp procharged z down the road.... what would be my best possible route to that? Ultimatley id like to be about 1000hp street rocket. Is that an unreasonable goal? Maybe ill try that and just start with the ARH and possibly the cutouts too? I am totally in love with this car right now.

LS7's are not the best choice for forced induction. They have issues with dropping valves in stock form also. Throw the headers on then see how you like the sounds before going further. You can make a 1000hp on a Z but is recommend a stronger block.

ok coo, thanks for the help. What kind of power are people running safely on Z's? I figured a forged rotating assembly, good heads and cam and i could make 1000 pretty safely? Also, A little off topic but i really want to put a nice sound system in it, thinking speakers, a sub and amp for now. What all would you guys recommend? I dont need anything like competition grade just something i can crank up for long trips

The biggest problem with the LS7's are the thin cylinder walls and that holds you back from running more boost. Most people sleeve the block when they forge it or go with a entirely stronger block. A good forces induction isn't cheap so make sure you know what you want to go with.

There are plenty of people running boosted LS7s, but I personally wouldn't do it without forged pistons at least. And a Vararam is the last intake I'd put on my car (I had it, but I got rid of it). I'm running a Callaway Honker at the moment.

Sorry for taking forever, works been crazy. Changed directions for now, want to keep it all motor for awhile as the more research I do that's the safest route. What heads and cam would you guys run? Here's what I was thinking for my build.

Arh headers (and BB exhaust possibly)
Tsp ls7r or s cam(whichever is more powerful)
Tsp prc 265's or 285's
Fast 102 intake and tb
Possible nitrous...

Is that build safe to run? a lot of people told me to stay out of the long block... would you guys recommend any other brands for more power? Any guesstimates on numbers or et? How much nitrous would be safe on a build like that? Also what clutch? Car won't be launched hard for awhile. Mostly just roll races

Personal opinion, before headers get the heads fixed. If you do anything else first your at risk for dropping an exhaust valve. If you do heads first all else can be added on with peace of mind.

+10000000. I agree, swap the heads out for aftermarket. It will be cheap insurance in the long run for you. Also what detoxx stated earlier about putting the longtubes on and leaving the stock axle back on. Stock Z exhaust with the muffler mod and a mild to wild switch sounds great!! I took off my Corsas and put a set of Z axle back exhaust on the car and absolutely love it!!! Just check out the sound clips on youtube. Jay

Heads are the number one thing you need to address. Either buy new ones or if you have a local machine shop, swap out the valves and save yourself a lot of money. Maybe even have them decked also. I have seen 640rwhp z06s with h/c/I/e and e85. Me personally find it very hard to tear into a hand built engine.

ok so im pretty sure im gonna go with the PRC's, any opinions? not sure which cam. does the rest of my plan seem ok? opinions on other brands? what would get me the most power out of H/C/I/E? Also, would it be safe to run nitrous after that work is done? if so what brand? alot of people have reccomened nitrous to me. im a total newb with nitrous. NEVER sprayed any car before so i know nothing about the different brands.... ive heard there are some kits that claim a certain shot but then put down nowhere near that to the wheel. thats what im trying to avoid.

H/C/I nitrous would be really really fun. I wouldn't bother with forced induction unless you want to yank out the LS7 and get a ERL sleeved LS3/LS2 427 build for boost.

Read this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-upgrades.html

Get the stock heads worked over a bit and fixed to avoid dropping a valve. Or just go aftermarket. Then get a medium sized cam with good manners. All supporting mods and you should be good for 575-600whp. Then you can spray a 100 - 150 shot. If you want to be safe i'd do forged internals for the spray though.

They don't have to be aftermarket. I still have my OEM heads, but I am running bronze guides, Ferrea Competition Hollow-stem valves, Katech's beehive springs, seats & titanium retainers, and the C.H.E rocker arms. The common "fix" (more like workaround) is to simply go with bronze guide, stainless steel exhaust valves, and dual springs, but that combo was wreaking havoc on Katech's Spintron. I was running that setup and had a lifter fail and chew up my camshaft, so I lightened up the valvetrain just as an extra precaution.

Figure out what heads you are going with then decide on a cam. Those two need to match eachother to work best. Nitrous will be fine but forged internals would make it stronger. Read and learn about it

What would be better to run on street, 265 or 285? And what will get me more power?
