Default LS3 C5 Widebody Kit Build (Updated with pics)

(Update: New pics of the completed car on next page)

This all started after my car got hit on Halloween. I needed to replace the passenger side fender and the rear bumper. So, I figured, why not do a little something different to the car? Looks wise I went with carbon fiber widened fenders, carbon fiber side skirts and carbon fiber front C5R lip. Rear bumper is the RK5 bumper from RK Sport. Also, I switched the wheels up to TSW Nurburgring's, 18x10.5 all around. 295/30r18 up front and 315/30r18 in the rear. Performance wise, we started pulling the LS3 out so the forged pistons and rods can be installed. Car has a LS3 in it with a TSP cam and Vortech V-2 Si trim. I also picked up a set of C6 Z06 brakes, oem calipers, Centri cross drilled rotors, Hawk HPS pads and SS lines.

We test fitted the fenders and rear bumper to see what to expect. I'll post pictures as the project goes along.

Any reason why you used such a short rear tire? Looks odd. That one is about 1" shorter than the OEM height. Even shorter than the OEM Z06 tire. I would have expected a 35-series sidewall. All that power needs some tire, man!

With the car lowered as much as it is its a size that works for me. I used to run Michelin PS2 in a 315/30. Car wont hook with a 35 series either. Thats why I'll need some full drag slicks for the track. For road racing I like the 30 series.

Was finally able to see the damage to cylinder 7. Of course as always, a busted ringland. Head was ok and the cylinder had light scuffing that a hone should clear up.

The piece that broke off melted like solder and got stuck on the head but it flaked right off. Gonna vacuum test the heads too.

Yes you can pull the motor from the top and it aint that hard. Seems many think you have to drop the whole cradle from the bottom.

Did you unbolt the rear cradle and slide it back? Usually I pull it from the top but I remove all the rear trans, cradle, and torque tube

Nope. Just loosen the front cradle and the steering rack. This drops it and gives you about 2in you need to scoot it forward and clear the crank pulley. Just used the hoist to lift the engine as we slide the motor forward off the driveshaft spline so the batwing wing pan clears. Oh and disconnect the top A arms and the remove the lower shock bolts so the cradle csn drop a bit. Takes a few seconds with the impact gun.

You can see in the pics that the bell housing and driveshaft spline are in the same place so the rear cradle and torque tube doesnt need to be touched.

Some more goodies came in today. Just waiting on my C6Z calipers now. 14in rotors up front. That should slow me down.
Felt sorry the mailman who had to lug the 4 rotors to my door. Hes a lil dude too. No wonder he was walking tilted over. Lol

They sell them at Autozone and most parts stores. Black "tuner" lug nuts.

Does the body shop need to do any trimming of the fenders to fit or are they good enough to sand, prime, paint and install? Or you going with how they are now? Any significant weight difference?

Theyre just test fitted at the moment but no sanding or anything is needed except just drilling the mounting holes. Only other thing would be paint if you want to paint them. The fit on them is very good.

Early gift for me. Picked up the motor and heads. We'll hit it hard on Thursday to try to have it running before the weekend. Hope you all enjoy tonight and tomorrow with family and friends. Be safe.
