I'm not sure if this helps much, but you might try these header inserts in your collectors. They've been known to really cut down on ridiculous noise. Racers use them in tandem with a race muffler to really reduce noise without the horsepower loss. You might be able to use these, and save money by not having to reinvest in more exhaust components. I know there's info here on LS1Tech about them. So you might also do a search. Here's the link & site that goes into detail about them:

I have FLP's with no cats and Corsa Indy's. I thought it was a bit loud at first, but I have gotten used to it and actually like it now. Still able to hear the radio and hold a conversation easily. And when you get on the gas it ceratinly doesn't sound wussy. Drive it for a couple weeks and then decide if you want something more tame. You could also stick some cheap resonators in there. Less HP drop than cats. Should make it quieter.

A catted X should quiet it some and kill the rasp while also cleaning up the sound as well. Whatever you do, do not get the Car Chemistry Baffles to reduce the sound unless you want your dyno chart to look like this...........................Open QTEC vs Full Exhaust w CC Baffle.
