Just curious to how mine is going to sound. Vettes don't have the drone like an auto F body without cats do they? Thanks.

Send me a PM for specific questions in regard to the "drone", if you like. I have the Pro LG LT O/R system on my 2001 C5 Coupe, A4(3.42), and have no regrets...just a lot of power.

I can tell you one thing. Your car is going to be a good deal louder without cats no matter what setup you go with.

Rgr, that. That's a good thing. I just got a PM saying that even with the off road and Stingers it isn't as bad as an F-Body. That should make me ok with my Corsas then.

No, it's not. You're thinking about 3.5 or 4". I used to have a chart laying around showing it. 3" is good for anything over 350hp and with my cam on the way, heads coming soon, and a few other mods; it will work nicely.

wrong, my friend.
I have a 500 horsepower & 500 lbs TQ stroker in a 1967 shelby clone.
I called Flowmaster a number of times and talked to many different tech people. and asked them the same question 2 1/2" or 3" They all said the same thing. "you're right at the point where you go either way, the bottom of the scale for 3" tube.

If you were to go to anything bigger than 2 1/2" it would actually hurt your performance. You'd have absolutly no bottom end performance. Get some more opinions before its too late. call flowmaster, borla, spintech whoever.
good luck.

Dual 2.5" pipe will support about 450 flywheel HP

Single 3" pipe is good for a tad bit less (420)

Bigger is not always better I do however think LS1's might be the exception and not the rule.

No doubt about it w/o cats the car is gonna be loud!

You are probablly giving up a little TQ down low for some HP up high.(Either way will work just depends what your using it for)

BTW my 00 SS went 12.60 @112+ without headers through a 3" magnaflow system.(Lid,FTRA,MAF translator,Ported TB,Magnaflow Cat-back)

We have tested 2 1/2" against 3" systems on the C5 corvette and there is a loss with the 2 1/2"

In addition the LG Pro Long Tube headers use a race style "Merge" collector which aids scavange and again helps the power curve. You can see in the photo that we build a true "Long Tube" which in itself picks up low end torque.

I doubt that there is a more tested header around. The AFR test car had a different top brand of header on when they switched to the LG headers and picked up 10 hp and 22 ft lb torque.
We ususally see a 30+ increase on a regular C5 and 25 on a Z06.
Here is a Z06 graph with the addition of headers only. I don't think you will see any loss of low end torque.
Thanks
Lou Gigliotti

Lou,

Did you run the dual 3" X pipe from the headers to a stock Ti Cat back?

What exhaust did you run and what was the pipe diameter from the X to the back of the car?

I am trying to figure out if it is the factory direct fits or the exhaust that is restrictive.

Thanks

I have FLP headers with ORPs + Z06 mufflers and there is NO DRONE at all. I guess the loudness depends on the muffler. Z06 ti system works great if you want to drive the car longer than an hour.
