Default T-56 Tranny Differences?

I'm currently looking to buy a spare T-56 for my '99 FRC. I am wondering if anyone knows if a tranny originally from a Viper will work in my car? What about one out of an F-body? I know they aren't direct replacements but is there any way to modify them to work...different rear casting, etc..?

Also, is there any difference between M6's from '97-'02 Vettes that would prohibit a direct install?

Thanks

Due to it's rear mounted configuration the T56 for the C5 is a bit unique from that of the Viper and F-body's. I will double check, but I don't think adapation will work and have not heard of anyone doing it.

Any T56 from 1997-2002 should work in your 1999 hardtop. Be aware that the Z06's have a closer ratio M12, which could be an advantage.

Are you looking to get a spare tranny in case yours breaks or is there something wrong with the one in the car already?

If you keep an eye on the For Sale section or post a "WTB: C5 T56" type of thread they do come up front time to time fron cars being parted out.

OK. that's what I was thinking. I was hoping that I could convert a non-C5 T-56 to work but I can wait for the right one I guess. I know of one for sale but it's gonna take a while to get it to me. I wanted to have a spare lying around when my tranny comes out in the next couple days.

Yeah, I'm going through my second rebuild right now. At first it lastest for 20k miles but this last rebuild only lasted 4500...looks like I snapped the input shaft.

I WILL have a tougher tranny built for my car. Liberty is a name that comes to mind. They've built some serious trannies in the past that I was around. Maybe they can do it. That's what the spare is for.

Anyone heard of a trans. shop that's beefed up one of these before?

Thanks

UMMMM - I need a donation to my tranny fund as well, I have a dealer fixed tranny in my car now - not a good idea, I can't downshift from 3rd to 2nd and it's difficult to get into reverse.

Using the clutch is not the problem. It's my monsterous guns ramming the shifter into 3rd that is the problem. That poor, old T56 never stood a chance.
