Red (to me) doesnt seem to get 2nd looks. Not that any other stock color really does either, but i'd give a black or NBM car a 2nd look over a red one

And I personally don't care if anyone looks at me or not, that's not why I bought my car.
If you want attention, pull your pants off and run naked thru the store.

Who cares how much attention a car gets, I like the dark tint on my windows so people wont bother me. I dont notice people looking at the car unless my passenger points it out.

The vette is lighter, handles better, has a stronger rear, has a 5x better interior (its still not THAT good, but compared to an fbody its great), more features (dual zone climate control, hud, etc), the targa top is even a little more fun than ttops, and the 0.29 coefficient of drag is just amazing for roll racing or high speed runs. All that, lightly used, for the same price as a new f-body.

Thats enough for me

I just wish that there was a Vette around here driven by somebody less than 50

I dont think I've even seen a C5 guy here over 50. Almost everybody locally I know with one is in their 20's and 30's. The older guys seem to have moved to BMW and lexus now.

Not many C5 owners around here that're in their 20s or 30s. Theres 2 or 3 guys on the base w/ C5s, and some of them w/ C4s and a few with C3s. But most of the C5 crowd is 35+ around here.

Anyways, how can you say that a used vette is a better deal than a new f-body? Sure, the vette owner gets a few more luxuries, but what are we really after when you buy an LS1? Good 'ol American HP!
Something that's very important to any new car buyer. The new 2002 f-body owner has a 3yr/36k mile warranty, what does a "lightly used vette" of let's say, the year '00 have? Nothing! Sorry buddy, you lose! And don't make me into into insurance costs!

I see a debate!

For the past year I've had a 2000 Camaro SS, which I bought new, and I've had a 1999 C5, which I bought used. If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought a used C5 from the start. As it was, I did heads and cam on both cars pretty soon, so warranty really wasnt an issue. Even if it was, when I bought the C5 I could have got an extended warranty.

And yes, I'm after good ol HP, and I get it with a side of luxury and refinement for the same price.

And if you are curious about insurance, give your company a call. You'll see that C5's are less to insure than F-bodies. You already knew that tho, right?

Don't get me wrong, I love the vette too.

How much more is a used car warranty if you want it on a vette there? It's pricey out here I tell ya!

Also, out in here in Cali, insurance companies love V8s. They love corvettes for that reason. So when the insurance company lowers thier rates, I might get a second car.

I actually laughed out loud. I thought it was funny.

Attention: I went from a red C5 coupe to a black ZO6 with chromies. I don't know if it is the contrast of black with chrome and those bright red brake calipers, but I honestly cannot believe how much people gawk at this car.....no, it is definitely not why I bought it. I was just surprised. And I agree with Dean and his attention getting techniques.

Insurance: I went from a Late model Toyota Xtra Cab 4x4 pickup to my red C5....my insurance went DOWN!!!! Not by much but it did. It is the demographics of the car. You know all of that complaining about not getting C5 drivers to race.... you get the picture. They are usually older with a better/longer driving history(please realize the impact of the word longer....A 21 year old with a perfect driving record still has something to prove to the insurance company.....I am not trying to bash the driving record of F-body owners). Another thing is the safety of the car. Not only does the C5 have traction control(ASR F-body speak...I think), but it has Active Handling to keep you out of trouble. It is a damn good piece of equipment to have on board. And yet another reason is the theft history on these cars. Due to certain factors(ie computer chip keys), the Corvette is next to impossible to steal unless you flatbed/tow that puppy. I honestly don't know the history of theft on the F-body.

There I am done.

John

PS....I pay $65.00 a month for full coverage with 100k/300k/100k liability(way more than the state minimum). I am single...37yrs old....and drive a 2002 ZO6.

last oct i purchased a mint 87 gn, this was aways my dream car i love my c5 but the gn is a fun and very fast car, i would highly recommend you ls1 guys to buy one for a 2nd toy i get more looks in my gn than my 00 c5 and they are cheap as hell to modify, 11s for under 2 grand. tried to race ls1s and mustangs they wanted no part of the gn the resale on this car is better than any ls1 y or f body i can sale this car today for 20 grand.

I guess every place is different. For a year I'd randomly drive my 2000 SS or my 1999 C5 each day so I got a pretty good feel for what people look at more. Maybe it depends how redneck your city is or how many C5's there are compared to F-bodies? I have no idea. <shrug>

I like both cars looks a lot, but I think if you drove in a nicely modded C5 for a few weeks you'd understand the other side of things. I'm glad my windows are as dark as the law allows because I hate people looking at me when I'm driving, I feel like a fish in a fishbowl (a 475hp fishbowl )

I havent dynoed my 01 m-6 Vette yet but my 2000 m-6 SS with only a catback and a lid with a stock filter did 327.9 hp. I raced several Corvettes in it and never had one even give me a good run. I thought it was just maybe they didnt want to drive their car hard or didnt know how to drive. Well I have about 5k miles on my Corvette and have had a 2002 SS m-6 and a 2002 WS-6 put me down pretty easy. I put a new Blackwing on it and raced the WS-6 thinking this thing needs more air and he smoked my butt again. We raced 3 times to see if it was a fluke and it wasnt. I am now convinced Z-28s and TAs are indeed more powerful and faster.
