Default Body Question - C5 To Z06

This is probably a stupid noob question, but how hard would it be to make a standard C5 look like a Z06?

You couldn't unless you had the FRC bodystyle. Besides that, it's the rear brake ducts, front screens, and Z06 rims.

You'd need new Z06 gauges, seats, and red brake calipers as well, IF you want the inside to look like a Z06!!

So, the trunk / hatch arn't interchangable? You mean the chassis are that much different?

Yes. Not interchangeable. It would require some bodywork. The whole roof is different, molded into the body. You would have to chop the Z06 top off from the windshield to the trunk. By then, you'd be better off just buying an FRC and turning it into a Z06.

You'd have better luck turning a convertible into an FRC. Better yet, get a hard top custom made for the convertible. Then you'd have the look and still have the convertible functionality.

Thanks! One other stupid question, and then I'll be outta your hair. What exactly does FRC stand for? Is that just a C5 with a hardtop? Because, I thinking of buying a vette and if I do I'm going to of course build it to idiotic proportions. So I'm thinking of getting a C5, because it'll be a little cheaper on my insurance ( not much! ), and I LOVE the way the Z06 looks so I'm after that too.

Are you sure about the non-interchangeability of the all three body styles. The bar on the coupe looks like it will come out. The hatchback should be switchable. It seems like you could have whatever style corvette you wanted as long as you have the correct parts. I have seen a convertible turned into a FRC so the FRC top is swapable.

As I mentioned, you can do this with a convertible much easier because it already has the trunk like a Z06. A coupe doesn't have this, so MUCH more work would be required. You'd have to cut up a fixed roof coupe from the windshield all the way back.

The FRC/Z06 has a bar, too. Different location, though. Doesn't sit as far back as the coupe (I know because I hit my head on the bar in my Z06, but don't in my mother-in-law's coupe).

By the time you chop up both cars, you're better off selling your coupe and buying the FRC.
