Default What gears should I go with

I got a 2000 C5 with roughly 450whp and I will put 150 dry shot on it next year sometime. I'm getting a heavy duty rear diff. installed and I was thinking of going with either 3:73's or 3:90's. What would you guys chose and why? Thanks.........

Definently get some 4.10s. Especially for straight line performance. Quater mile times will drop about 3 or 4 tenths. Nuff Said.

A4 or M6 tranny?

If you have an A4, get 3.73 gears. If you have an M6, get the 4.10's.

Get the 4.10's if you're mainly concerned about 1/4 mile times. It should drop you a few tenths on just gears alone. You won't suffer drivability as there is much room for cruising in 5th or 6th gear.

I agree with them. If your car is an M6 then definitely get the 4.10's. A buddy of mine had the 3.90's in his '02 Z06 and then switched them for the 4.10's and he is a lot happier with the 4.10's in the rear, and he performs better at the track now, and he didn't notice much of a drop in MPG on the highway either. Good Luck.

4.10's might be a handful with that car unless you are running on 28" slicks.

As the power level goes up, so does your mph in the 1/4 mile, which means your car is taching higher as well. Unless you are prepared to run 28" tall tires on the rear and drive through the traps at 6800 to 7000 rpm, you may want to reconsider your choice of rear gears. With over 500 rwhp I would suggest the 3:73 gears if you want to be trapping at 6200 to 6500 rpm. Bob

In otherwords, go to Corvette Forum C5 Tech section to ask same question, as well as look mods listed in CF members sigs ... just a thought. Since I have an A4 my 3.42 [replaced 2.73] preference is not applicable to your situation.
