Default 97's going for $15,000?

I've been kind of looking at used corvettes lately. According to NADA and KBB what i'm looking for (high mileage 97 w/ MN6 and average condition), the price is ranging from $11-15k!!

now i'd imagine that number is decently far off, i was just wondering how you guys felt about it.

also, i'd imagine with the c6 coming out, the c5's prices would start to drop.

anyone feel free to comment

You can find older C5's for around $15k, not much less. Anything less than $15k usually means 100k+ miles, and or salvage title.

A buddy of mine who lives in Texas found a 99' FRC for $19,500 with 60 some odd thousand miles on it. That's a steal if you ask me. I paid a whole lot more for mine!!!

good news for me. i'm not scared whatsoever of miles...IMO these motors are pretty damn reliable, and cheap enough to replace... i would be curious to see what these go for at the dealer auctions...

Sold my '97 for $17.5 with 53k miles. However, that was after being side swipped by a mail truck.

If you snag one at a dealer auction just remember a dealer is willing to take 10 - 11k because they could not get a cent more for it to the public.... There is LOTS of JUNK at dealer auctions......

C5 prices have dropped...they went south about $3K when the C6 hit the ground a year ago August...when you are talking about miles the motor is not the thing to be concerned about..the 97's had some glitches in them and 98's too...keep in mind that these cars have a lot of computers on board..the electronics are what cost an arm and a leg to repair not the engine...I would be looking at a 99 or newer car if I were you..they had most of the bugs out of them by 99..just my 2 cents..I am in the Corvette biz..just speaking from experience...good luck in your search..

I gave $13k for my silver '97 back in June and have had zero problems with it so far. I drive it like I stole it (actually feel like I did steal it)

However, at the end of the day you are still drivin a dime a dozen f-body, and the rest of us are driving Y-Bods. Here's a little pic of my '97 for ya to drool over.

That's both true and not true. Here you see C5's ABOUT as much as you see LS1 Fbody's. Dime a dozen? Yes. I like the body of that Z06 better, but your Vette is very clean, except that things needs some tint, and it's nearing 9-10 years old.

I find my 8 year old C5 is more solid than any of the 8 year old f-bodies I drove though.
